Gotta join in with the others, Loch Raven all the way. Boats migh be alot slower but the fish are much much bigger throughout the year. 35 fish over 5lbs this year, 2 over 6lbs and 2 just a bit over 7.5lbs. I have even seen a buddy of mine pull in a 8.5lb fish last year. Just wish the people who run the fishing center would let boat owners stay out till dark.
Upper bay Gunpowder Middle river area,Loch Raven is cool too but the bay has given up some real big fish too,look at some Tx results lots of 22+ pound bags brought in.
I ain't to proud to Beg----------I need lessons on those Rivers............
Trade lessons on Wicomico,Nanticoke,Pocomoke,Choptank, Marshy Hope for those on Suss, Sassafrass, Northeast........etc.......

I don't fish the lakes much. If i had to pick a lake it would probably be Conowingo.
I've always liked the Susquehanna from the dam, down river, and the upper Potomac, near Sheppardstown WV.
I fish the rivers on the lower E shore more than anywhere else. I really don't have one favorite, but if I had to pick one it would be the Chicamacomico, mainly because I fish there more than any place else. ;)
Northeast River and mouth of the Susky, hard to beat, a little bit of everything ( 'cept pads ) as far as cover. Docks in the Northeast, Grass on the flats, rocks in the Susky...all within a 25 minute boat ride...and the Sass is only 30 minutes from the launch in the Northeast.

Has anyone fished out of Martinak State Park? I was wondering if the fishing is any good down that way or down in Federalsburg :help:. My favorite would have to be the good ole' Potomac River! Gotta love it!! :)
Adrew246, I have a friend who lives near Denton, MD. Last time I fished out of Martinek, was in the late spring, a few years ago, he & I took my boat & launched there. We were just fishing, for whatever we could find, using mostly 1/8 oz chartreuse & white spinnerbaits & light spinning tackle. We launched & went down river and caught several fish that day, primarily in the small streams that feed into the Choptank, and a few under piers. The biggest bass we caught was just under 15 inches. We caught a bunch of Yellow Perch & Channel cats too!
We finished the day fishing in Watts Creek, right at the park. Never went upriver that day, but I have fished along that stretch several times. There's fish to be caught there, but the tide has to be right to find them.
The area near Federalsburg may be a little better than near Martinek, there's more vegetation & cover, but again I haven't been over there in a few years.
Neither place will compare to the Potomac. ~shade
Well thanks its good to know that theres some bass to be caught down there, ive seen signs for the Delaware Bass Federation at both locations, i fish through a youth club in maryland but just moved over the bay to Easton and are planning on fishing through and adult club in Delaware i need the competetion i don't get through my youth club as well as the oppotunities, i'll agree with you tho, nothing beats the potomac, i fished with Kevin Waterman last summer out there during the Jr. Mr Bass and acctually won it ive been out there a few times but during the mr bass i missed several bass over 4 pounds tossing a frog on the milfoil! Theres not much i know of out my way to fish atleast until i get my boat this spring, but thats once i get a job of course :'( ~xyz

There's plenty of fishing to be had near Easton, if you don't mind fishing for perch, catfish or Stripers! ~shade
There's not much in the way of bass fishing around Easton, unless you can travel some. The only places I can think of is Wye Pond, near Wye Mills, or the Tuckahoe River, but I've never had much luck with bass in the Tuckahoe. Channel cats & perch, yes, but not bass. ::)
There are a few places further east, near Cambridge & Vienna. The Chicamacomico & Transquaking Rivers are a short drive, as is the Blackwater River. The Nanticoke is there too, but bass fishing is probably better up river, near Seaford, DE. ;)
Yes, ive lived here for about 6 months ive pulled several NICE bass out of both Tuckahoe Lake and Wye Mills Lake... as far as the Tuckahoe River i have not tried much, i enjoy the perch and striper fishing but i lived on the severn river over in annapolis/severna park area and got alot of that, i wish i had a boat, and my license which i should have this month... things would just be MUCH easier! I wish maryland had more to offer as far as big waters. Do you know of any open tournaments that i could enter as a non boater either in maryland or delaware? I wish i could get out on a boat more often! ???

I think that Md. and Del. have more big water to bass fish then alot of states, with the Chesapeake bay and all it's tributary's, every river off of the bay hold Bass, some more then others. With you being from the Annapolis area did you know that the Magothey River and the Severn River have Bass, not like the Eastern shore Rivers but bass non the less. I admire your will to bass fish and wish you well, you now live closer to some fine fishing, Keep us posted in the spring when you start wackin-um.
Probably Potomac River out of the ramp near Reagan National Airport. I also love Loch Raven.
I like Deep Creek and The Youghiogheny Res. because there close to home..

I would love to trade out with you. Are you interested in a spring trip to loch raven? I wouldnt mind hitting the Sassafras. Let me know. Starting the end of April Loch raven gets real hot. typical days are 30 plus fish with many over the 5lb mark.
I would have to agree with clarker2000, Loch Raven is rockin' in the spring and late fall. The problem is everyone knows it. The number of boats there on the weekend is phenomenal. Maybe they should create another boat ramp closer to the upper end. This would relieve some of the pressure on the lower end with all the rentals.
Second choice: Prettyboy Reservoir for quality smallies.
A second ramp at Loch raven would be great. The whole fishing shop office at Loch raven is BASS ACKWARDS. They close early, when they want to open they open, people park cars in the trailer spaces and they are selling too many permits. I remember going there 3 or 4 years ago and seeing maybe 30 boats a day on the lake, no on a normal weekend there is about 200. That would be awesome.

Nanjemoy creek at Potomac river and also Indian head at Potomac. Just good fishing there
Not a lake in MD, but I enjoy Lake Anna. As for fishing in MD, I love the Upper Potomac. Not as crowded, and larger boats can't fish it. Great Smallmouth fishing, too.

wheatley lake and smallwood state park no doubt. If anybody is looking for a lesson/guide in either of these places lmk. i dont have a boat so if you have one that would be great.
Piney run , Smithsville, Unicorn and Potomac River are the great places for bassing.
I love all the eastern shore rivers. I am sure the western sure ones are nice. I'll be trying my hand on the potomac here soon. The one kid talking about choptank I had a club tx there last year and a friend of mine caught a 8.57 largemouth. here is a pic

Look into Swan Creek(marina), Greenway Flats, Mattawoman Creek and Nanjemoy Creek on the Potomac. If you get there, you'll see why! Awesome!

Well, I live in Georgia now, but spent my first 56 years in Frederick. I fished Deep Creek a couple times but never had much luck. The Potomac is tops with me! I spent many a day fishing the upper Potomac around Dickerson and White's Ferry, fishing for smallmouth and catfish. When I got my boat, I fished out of Mattawoman and Belle Haven quite a bit. BIG catfish in the tidal Potomac, too!
Hands down, Loch Raven Reservoir! In the spring (starting in early May), you can catch over 100 fish a day fishing flukes in 6" of water. You can see clearly thru the water, you cant see the fish but they just come from nowhere. (ALMOST as fun as a topwater bite!) In the summer, find grass find bass...and the grass is everywhere! In the fall, (NOW!) when the grass starts to die the fish move shallow and find wood and can be caught using nearly any method. Loch Raven had a 30lbs bag win a tournament this year. What a great fishery! ~shhh

Liberty Reservoir. There is so much water to fish and so many different fish to catch. I have seen 25 pound rock and 6 pound walleye. You can catch a smallmouth on one part of a cove and a largemouth on the other end.
It is hard to figure out, but so much to offer and so close to Baltimore.
For anyone interested there are huge cats and monster carp.
Liberty is great, you are right about the monster carp. I've gone there to sight fish with my fly rod a few times for those carp. Sure is fun. Liberty is exciting, but it is a tough nut to crack. Sometimes there I slay them, other times I get the skunk. :'(
Where is the best place to catch catfish up at Liberty from the shore and what do you use for bait?

I fish on Conowingo a lot and we refer to it as a POND. It's main purpose is for power generation so by your description it should be called Conowingo Reservoir. However, it is more commonly called Conowingo Lake but other than fisherman and a few pontoon boats it doesn't see much recreation although that generally fits.

my fav, would have to be loch raven for the simple fact i dont get to the others very often if ever. The loch is just 15 minutes from my house. In the spring and summer months you can find me on the lock 2-3 times a week, if the wifes in a good mood maybe a forth. my only complaint is all the damn grass in the later summer months.
If were talking lakes well then I've heard Loch Raven is the best in MD. However, I have my own gas boat and it's an electric only reservoir and you need a permit so I have never been their. I have caught a lot of bass at Piney Run Resevoir. Good Spring and early summer fishing their. It gets a lot of vegetation after mid Summer and the fishing gets harder then. As far as tidal waters, I have had the best luck in the Middle River. Marshy Hope Creek on the Eastern Shore is pretty good too.

What's wrong with more boats on the lake? You have to be kidding me! We're not talking about a farm pond on private property.

i went out last august and fished the first tribituary out of the fishing center, bumped some crankbaits off the rocks and drew strikes. Had much sucsess with my bleeding spinnerbait. In the end i landed 7 bass with 5 2lbers and 2 4lbers.

I catch the rockfish on little bluegills and/or trolling redfins... every now and then i catch one bass fishing using a jig....

Compared to the perch and the sunnies I've been snagging all spring and summer, this guy is like Ray Lewis to my high school football teammates. It was pretty awesome and his jump and tail slap made me hoot.
He was about 14-15 inches. Can't wait to get back to my father-in-laws and hunt for more.

Fished a tourney there a few months ago, went up river to PA, but below the blue bridge.
Rapids area was loaded with smallies....caught a nice limit during prefish day...but only four during the toruney, but weighed in 14+ lbs. It's a great place to fish, but boaters need to be careful. My boater had a jet boat as did another boat from PA that we saw.
The tourney winner fished near the power plant catching largemouth...there are some submreged
stumps holding a lot of bass.

well in the last year or 2 i have gotten back into fishing dont know why i stopped for so long i LOVE fishing my favorite lake so far is loch raven but i other than renting a boat fish from shore anyone have any tips for fishing from loch raven shore were what to use at this time of year jan 2011.or if anyone has another place i can fish i rather fish fresh water lakes ponds river ect i am from mass moved here 11 years and have done next to no fishing until now

i want to try for afternoon and eveing fishing with in 30 mlies or so from the parkville area
I'd like to check out Lake Roland, Prettyboy and the Baltimore County area of the Patapsco River this spring, all of which are pretty close to Parkville.
I grew up along Deer Creek northern Harford County and have been thinking about checking that area out as well.
I would have to say my fav. lake in Maryland would have to be Deep Creek by far. When that place is on IT IS ON, and when its off you still wont have a problem getting limit.

Potomac River....without question. Loch Raven is overfished, most people will get mad about this but its truth. It just isnt what it use to be. My second choice is Middle River, third would be nrth side susquehanna.
Liberty is my favorite Lake...smallmouths, striper, walleyes and largemouth.........
Haven't heard anybody mention black hills aka the lake fork of md. Standing timber in 30 feet of water hydrilla and monster bass .
My lake! Caught 4 22+ INCH FISH in 4 outings in May and June. Also my lake still holds the record for largemouth bass at 11 lbs. 2 oz

I'd say my favorite lake is certainly Conowingo Lake. Yes, I'm calling it a Lake! Very Good stringers can be pulled from the Conowingo (I consider 15-20 lbs very good on Conowingo). I have to throw a big mention in there for the Potomac BUT.......The Susquehanna river and the Flats can NOT be beat right now. The long dominance of the Potomac is in the past ~shade

My favorite lake in Maryland is the one I'm on on any given day. Loch Raven, Liberty, Prettyboy, the Chesapeake Bay, and a few ponds I won't tell you about. Plus the Gunpowder. We live in a great place.

RTWilke is right and it is the major reason I have lived here for so long.
I do like Piney Run the best and it is the closest in MD to my home. I also like Little Seneca Lake in Black Hills Park, Triadelphia, Rocky Gorge because I fish mostly electric only lakes now. Back in the day I fished all over MD and several other States in rivers, creeks and bays. Best thing about Maryland in my opinion is that I can be at the Ocean in a few hours, the Mountains in a couple hours and several other States in a couple of hours.
I have thought about going to the Baltimore City Reservoirs, Liberty and Prettyboy, but have more fun with more places to choose from right now.
Right now its Triadelphia. Fished it in past years and came away with nothing. Of course this year I finally get some fish (and my pb) and it will be closed in 10 days. LOL. Like the Gorge too. Need to try out Deep Creek and get back to Piney Run.

There are a lot of decent ponds around White Marsh to fish at. There are two ponds right next to each other that I drove by in the winter that looked like they could be real good. I have not had a chance to fish there yet. Here is a link to them. I would be curious if anyone has fished here before.
