Mississippi / Pascagoula River 4/24/24
Last post by fishingram24 - Yesterday at 07:30:52 PM
Hero to zero in 24 hours, killed them yesterday and today I struggled to get a bite. Finally managed to put 3 keepers in the boat on a baby brush hog and several small fish late in the day from the back of one bayou and that was it. Conditions were almost identical to the previous day, rising tide until after noon, clear sunny skies, water temp 72-74 with 1-2' visibility but the SSE winds were not quite as strong. Fairly typical for the area in that you smash them one day and not the next, still an enjoyable day on the water.

Will try and do that, areas I've been fishing is coastal marsh with, nothing but waist high grass, with bayous running through out it. Lots of wildlife, ospreys, a few bald eagles, may kinds of smaller birds and plenty of gators and some days bass.

Have never fished out of a kayak, let alone frog fish out of one.

I can say, however, in regards to frog fishing. I know some have mentioned 30lb braid.

In my neck of the woods. Frog fishing in heavy vegetation with light braid is just asking to have your heart broken and wallet upset.

I frog fish heavy vegetation with 50lbs.

To the OP. Experiment and see what works for you. Good luck!

Florida / Everglades (4/24/24) Scouting ...

Conditions:
Skies: Sunny to partly cloudy
Winds: East  5 to 10
Current: None.
Water clarity: slight stain
Water temps: 76-78
Fishing time: 7am to 11:30am
Bass and Peas boated: 54

Scheduled opened up for me to me to fish today. With the South FL get-together happening Saturday, and a short 4 hr guide trip coming up. I decided to scout and put myself on a mock 4-hour guide trip.

Arrived at the ramp a little before 7am. Made a 10 min run and started fishing.

Went top water first. Not too much action, but I did land a decent bass.

As time wore on, nothing was happening. Hmmm,,,, I made a switch to soft plastics, and I was off to the races!! I had a run where a fish was on, on every cast!!

All in all, despite being a short outing, I managed to land 54 bass and peas, with a few 3's and healthy 2 lbrs in the mix.

The only annoying part of the trip was the boat traffic from all the out of town boats! Geesh! Ridiculous!

Fortunately, my guide trip will not be in this area, but it's good to know the fish are here for Saturday. ;)

Also came across JHAB. Good to see you, my friend.

Thanks for reading!

I'm posting my mini report over here for you guys.

Fished the outer fringes of Holiday Park this morning from 7am to 11:30am. Landed 54 bass and peacocks. Few bass over 3 lbs.

I will share the area and the baits I used on Saturday, for those of you who arrive early. ;)

Here's the not so good news. Be ready to encounter a TON of boat traffic from out of town folks.

Some of these boaters do not know about fishing and boating etiquette. So be aware.

These folks are mainly chasing for oscars and Mayans. They they travel in large groups. Do not be surprised if you encounter caravans of 3 to 5 boats at a time.

They basically drove me off the water today. I crossed paths with Jhab. He can attest to the boat traffic. (Great seeing you today, Jim!) The fishing was great, but boat after boat, after boat, started getting really annoying.

I will be fishing a different area on Saturday, so I will not be concerned about the boats.

Just wanted to let you guys know what you're in for.

See you Saturday!!
