I use green year around regardless of water clarity.

Try black and blue, when the water clarity drops here its my go to color. Dark colors seem to work best for me when the water is stained.

If you are throwing say a watermelon, try going a bit darker to green pumpkin with brown in it..if you can find a spot where you see the bottom, match the bottom colors you see.  Junebug trailer is good, too.  The old black and blue also.  I usually just go a bit darker than I would throw in clear water, and add a rattle to the skirt or inside your trailer with an inserted worm rattle.  I seem to get more bites with a rattle than without in the stained water.

cnrrob,

Yes, when we talk about water clarity you start with clear water.  From there it becomes stained (various degrees) up to muddy.  In general if you can see more than 3ft into the water it is clear (of course, there is various degrees of this too) and less than 3ft is considered stained down to less than 1ft which is muddy.  The other thing to consider is the normal color where you are fishing.  If the water normally has visibility of 3ft and now you can only see 1 or 2ft then that would be slightly stained.  Where if you can normally see 5 or 6 ft and now can only see 1 or 2 ft then that would be muddy.  I hope this helps and doesn't confuse you to much.  Don't forget, everyone has their own opinions on this too.

Tight lines,
Brian

Black and blue works in all water clarity.  It's hard to beat black and blue.

Green with a few strands of orange or yellow in it.

I tie my own jigs, and throw a green pumpkin jig with a few pumpkinseed, orange, purple, and watermelon strands thrown in about 95% of the time.  This seems to work in about any water color and any body of water. For muddy water I like black and blue or junebug.
