Greetings to everyone

I got tired of having my fishing line being stored in a bag and it rolling around in the boat. I was looking at Big D Basser's Skeeter at "Grand Bayou Shoot Out" and he had a spooling station rigged in his rod box. He told me that it came from Skeeter like that. I got to thinking it couldn't be that hard to make one so I did.

Equipment needed: Drill and 5/32 drill bit; Paper towel dispenser (metal or pastic); 1/4" dia.rod (Wooden or Metal); Stainless steel screws with washers.

The first thing is find a place to mount this where it's not in the way of things. I put mine in my driver's side rod box. Mark your holes and drill the holes.

I use the 1/4 lb spools of line and was able to get (3) spools rigged up on this.
I got it all together and gave the spools a try to make sure they would rotate freely before I mounted it to the rod locker lid.

The finished product mounted and ready to go.

It took me about 30 minutes to do this project. I actually had it installed with Industrial Velcro but due to the heat I decided to mount it with screws. Make sure that the length of your screws don't come through the top of the rod box. In my rod boxes I have a mounting bracket built in which allows for accessories to be installed.

How are you securing the wooden rod to stop it from coming out of the holder?

I've been testing this for the past 8 months and not had any issues with the rod sliding out. I guess you could drill a small hole in the rod and put a cotter pin in there to keep the rod from working out. Its a real tight fit with the wooden rod and plastic material.

Nice job Donald!

You could roll an o-ring on the dowel to keep it from sliding.

Neat idea! What do you use to keep it the line from coming off? Tape? Rubber band?

You could use a rubber band or tape. I use the tape that comes with the spool of line.

If space is an issue, i have one in my shop made from a toilet paper holder as well. I didnt drill clear through the holder so the dowel rod is sandwiched in there.

That is pretty cool.

I'd just need to get a boat then.

If I were to make it for me I would refine your need awesome contraption by using a threaded metal rod in place of the wooden dowel. I could then use wing nuts on the ends to keep things secure and wing nuts in the inside to keep the spools from moving too much and if necessary, they ought to be able to provide some tension to the line.
