Are you going to be using it in heavy cover?

I use 65lb. braid for frogg'n and 50lb. for all other applications. If you have never used braid before. Spool mono backing first to prevent the braid from slipping. You will want to use a line conditiner like Braid Aid or KVD line conditioner during the spooling process. This will allow the braid to lay down on the spool during spooling.

Yes. I use a microfibre cloth. But an old cotton T-Shirt will work as well. After spooling the mono backing. Tie the braid to the mono and finish filling the spool with braid. Then tie the end of the spooled braid to a tree, light pole, or anything stationary and walk backwards with the reel in free-spool. When you get to the mono backing spray your conditioner on your rag of choice. Grip the braid between your thumb and index finger. Crank your handle 10 times or ten steps applying pressure with your thumb and index finger. Also keeping the braid tight as you re-spool. Reapply the conditioner every 10 steps. This process will condition the braid and assure it is tight on the spool.
Good Luck  :)

sometimes if a lure is prone to tumbling on the cast, the limpness of braid can lead to increase incidence of hook fouling...  other than that, it's a great tool.  and as a fan of topwater where I believe longer casts often result in increased 'hits'...no stretch helps a lot.

it's always fascinating to see how many folks have differing opionions on 'what line works/doesn't work' for them...

I toss my topwaters on mono....(hopelessly old school) ... have fished with guides/guide equipment where we tossed tops on braid...  I guess I do toss my frogs on braid:  suffix...the 'original' stuff...it's always worked great for me....so I've never had the need to try other...  I went with it as a 'round' braid... versus some of the older flat braids...

I run braid for multiple applications one being top water. Right now I have Power Pro and Berkley Fireline Braid. I'm sure I'm an odd man out on this but I truly like the Berkley more than the Power Pro. But of course this is just my experience and really who am I? lo

Braided line is my go to for most topwater - The only exception is spotted bass in ultra clear water where I'll sometimes use a 15lb mono. It's more of a mental thing for me I think, than a real difference maker.

Braid is good for frogs but tends to foul more with topwater baits with treble hooks and/or props. Once the line is broken in it will be limp and when you pause your retrieve the line will float into the hooks or props. I use a 20lb mono leader with topwaters when I have a braid main line. This gives me the casting distance of braid and solid hooksets when a lot of line is out but I don't foul the hooks nearly as much with a mono leader. I usually use a 40lb braid mainline which has a 10lb diameter. If you go heavier like 65 or 80 then your diameter is upwards of 15lb+ and then you'll end up losing casting distance.
