Following on from another thread, I wanted a more specific thread just for the MercMonitor.
Is there any UB with knowledge of this "special" gauge?  Please post all you know about the MercMonitor here....things like what motors this gauge can/cannot be used with.

I would think the year SmartCraft gauges came out will be the year for Merc Motors to display engine data.  I'm sure I'll be corrected if that info is wrong.  GReat thread.

I have a 2006 Optimax and had the "Smart Craft" module installed when I ordered the boat new in 2006.  It is my understanding that all the Optimax's can get this upgrade and I highly recommend it.

I too have the Optimax, but I believe it is a 2005 model. Is there a way to tell if the motor is able to accept the MercMonitor and wiring?

Are these gauges 'plug & play'??

Yes...basically plug and play. I have an 2004 EFI and I added the Merc Monitor. It will give you all of you engine vitals bit things like trim gauge sending unit  will need to be changed to a digital if yours is an analog gauge now. Also, the fuel gauge will need to be change to a digit sending unit. RPM'S, engine temp, water pressure, GPH, and engine hours will be available on it.

2003 and up Optimax/EFI engines are all Smartcraft Compatible. Very few 2001-2002 models were compatible.

If you need a source in the states to get one or ask questions I'd email sherm@shermsmarine.com in Indiana.

Just got my new one today from European Marine.  I let the other one go on the boat when I sold it and liked it so much I promptly ordered another one!

I have my new Merc Monitor and several system link gauges. I haven't had time to install them yet but I'm planning on doing so in the next few weeks.

I have a question.....

I currently have 5 analog gauges in the dash now and I will soon be replacing them all with the new digital gauges. Here's the question......what should I do with all the wires behind the dash that are connected to the analog guages??

Cover them with black tape to prevent a short and mark them so you know what gauge they came off of.

That's about the same solution I could come up with  ::)

I have finally got around to installing my new MercMonitor and extra system link guages and they look sweet.

For the old gauge/wire solution, here's what I ended up doing. I had an old dash panel, so I kept 3 guages in that old panel and operational, and secured it under the console out of the way. I will keep them that way until I know my new gauges are working correctly.

I'll post some photos when I get home from work.

Here it is.....

The MercMonitor is on the left which replaced my old non-working speedo. The other 4 gauges are my system link guages (water pressure, fuel level, trim and Tach) which are all linked to the MercMonitor.

You'll also notice I put my SonicHub head unit in the dash also  ;)

I also linked my HDS-8 Gen-1 to the MercMonitor via NMEA-2000 and now get all the data on the HDS screen.
Very cool technology  ~shade

That looks great !  I like where you put the Sonic Hub :). All the data right there on one screen !  On mine I can get it all up there but no engine data yet :(

Do you have a 4 stroke ?

Major Kudos!!!!  You have done what very few Merc guys have done.  I bet you are in a very exclusive club taking properitary Merc data bus info, bridging it via Merc Monitor over to Lowrance NMEA2000.   Wow!!!!   ~c~ ~c~ ~c~ ~c~

Yes, and it is very exciting....but it'll probably be next spring before I get to use it properly.

Reason I asked is I saw oil pressure PID up and wasn't sure if that was actual engine oil pressure or 2 stroke injector or something.
