Lowrance HDS 7 question
Leon K:
I have a generation 1 HDS 7 with in site. I also have a Navionaics Preminum chip. I fish Lake Barkley and there is a 5 foot difference in summer and winter pool. Will the depths shown on my chart be for the winter pool level or the summer pool level. Thanks in advance.
Mike Cork:
You'll have to get with the state, corp, or which ever is the governing authority for it and find out what the normal pool is and that is what will show on the chip.
Just a quick search and I came across this.
http://www.kentuckylake.com/lake-conditions.aspx
It lists the current conditions and then the departure from normal. So you could add them together and come up with what the normal full pool is. This will be the elevation that your navigation chips use.
Leon K:
Mike, The Corp normally brings the lake to full summer pool by the end of April, depending on rain fall. The full pool elevation is 359. When the winter draw down starts, usually around the first of October, the lake will stay at 354 until they start the cycle over again. The depth and conture lines stay the same, no matter what the lake elevation is. My sonar, on split screen shows the actual depth. I realize my insight and Navonaics chip are pre programed.
Mike Cork:
When looking at your chart you'll have to subtract the difference. If you know the lake is 6 foot low, and you're looking at a 20 ft contour line it's only going to be 14 ft. there is not a way to change the depth the contours show you on your chart. At least not that I'm aware of.
Is that what your looking for?

Lakemaster Mapping has a unique feature specific (I think) to it's mapping software. I think it's called contour offset. With Lakemaster electronic Mapping, let's say your map says your are suppose to be in 25' but your sonar is showing 15' of water on your graph. In your Humminibird's sonar menu select 'contour offset) input -10' to accurately offset LakeMaster mapping. Once you execute the offeset your Lakemaster Mapping will automatically readjust every countour line on the lake. Furthermore, Let's say originally Lakemaster shows humps at 5' below water now those humps will appear as islands on your GPS mapping with correctly readjusted countour depths on the graph. Way,way cool feature. Everything on your Humminbird will accurate be re-set to the depth of the water your fishing that day. If your lake region is supported LakeMaster might be something to consider. I hope this will be supported in the future for Lowrance. I think this this software feature is specific to Humminbirds. Also, the software works with 700 series units and up in the Humminbird family. Not sure I'm getting rid of my Humminbird 788 CI HD currently on the bow anytime soon.
