Yep, I found out that you can be led astray by those "Mike's".  Followed him on Sunday....one fish.  Fished in a lot of different areas, ones that I didn't fish in the Reeve's.  Did not find anything new so I guess its back to the same pattern as before.

Fished the Thursday evening tournament championship today on Cross.  It was a bit warm out there.  Those guys really did a great job with the championship.  Weigh-in was at the Shreveport Yacht Club.  After the fish were weighed, out came the food.  They fed us barbequed chicken, smoked sausage, baked beans, potato salad, and bread.  They also had all the beer and soft drinks you could want.  Travis donated quite a bit of stuff for places finished and for door prizes, along with some other folks.

There were 35 teams in the championship.  Claude and Marlon won it with over 16 pounds ($2000) and had big bass ($330).  A.J. and Jerry took second - over 10 pounds ($800) and Todd Jackson and his son took third - over 9 pounds ($420, I think).  Money was paid for the first 4 places and prizes for the next 8 places.  Fred and I managed 10th place.  Couldn't get any over the slot bites...had 4 unders.  We each got a rod.  They had a bunch of door prizes also.  I got a reel as a door prize to go with the rod.

They will be having these again next year starting the first or second Thursday after the time change in April.  There is a lot of money on the line in these tournaments.

Finally got to go fishing for a couple hours yesterday and picked cross of all lakes to go to (should've went to the river or something) Anyway we got there about 4 and fished until 7 with only three bites. One on a crankbait (this was the only one that actually saw what the inside of my boat looked like) then lost one on a top water and lost one at the boat on a worm. Thaaaat daaaa daaa thaaaats all folks

Fished Cross for a while this morning.  Only caught 2, one in the slot and one over.  Spinnerbait and worm.

Fished Cross Saturday Morning till about noon, got a late start and couldn't manage a topwater bite but I did catch nine pitching a june bug worm to trees. Fished a few docks two but the bite was much better on 2-4 trees on the west end.

Fished cross again till about 1130. First I must apoligize to Mike Noble. Mike I had a previous partner that I had forgot about and then I forgot to get back to you. To top it all off he didn't show Roll Eyes Guess I deserved that Sad

Anyway caught about a dozen fish mostly on top water and spinnerbaits in the woods. Nothing over the slot though. Wonder where the large fish are hiding? They have to eat. "Bass may not everyday all day but they eat sometime everyday" don't remember who wrote this but I am starting to wonder if he has ever fished cross......

Mike and Mike,

Why do you subject yourself to Cross on purpose, because it is close??  there is not but one big tournament and the Thursday nite events each year and they are over with, then nothing.  Just curious.

By the way I heard that the city is not going to let the thursday nite circuit launch at the public ramp next year because of the traffic and ramp congestion, any truth to this? Huh

I can't speak for the other Mike, but this one fishes Cross lake....BECAUSE I LIKE IT.  I would much prefer to fish there than any other place. Grin

I heard the same rumor about the City not letting the Thursday evening tournaments launch out of the public ramp so I asked one of the tournament organizers.  He told me that he hasn't heard anything about that.  He said that everyone pays their Cross Lake sticker fee, its a public ramp, and he did not see how they could stop us.

So its time to start prefishing for the Thursday evening and Reeve's tournaments.

Well I do like cross but as far as a favorite it is low on the list. I fish cross because I have been only getting just a couple hours a week to go practice fishing and don't want to waste road time. Cross offers many different kinds of cover and structure to practice with, remember and effective practice isn't measured by the amount of fish you catch........ once my back is straight again and the military lets up just a little I will be back at it......

you guys are right, perfect practice makes perfect, and a bad day fishing beats a good day at work, even on cross lake.  I did not think about using cross lake to hone one's skills, but if you are fishing, that is all that matters.

hope your back gets better.

Not a problem Mike....maybe we can "hook up" and "set the hook" soon.  Sorry your partner did not show up.  At least you did some catching along with your fishing.  I think 21 fish in your last two trips is pretty darn good.

I will probably try and get over there this Saturday for a while.

I think the fish are just eating when we are not on the lake!!!!!!

I have only fished Cross once in the past few months, and it was better fishing than the River.  I just don't have any luck on the Red, and I have been just about everywhere.  Both bodies of water are equally convenient for me, but both have a couple of features that kinda bother me:  the Red is loaded with snakes and Cross was infested with wasps!

But like my buddy Steve said, any time you can go fishing is worth it!!!

The only thing that I can think of that is good about cooler or cold weather....no snakes or wasps.  I prefer to deal with wasps...they don't try to sneak in the back of the boat while you are not watching.  Plus wasp spray in the boat can help.

Guess what....fished Cross on Saturday.  It was the Mike and Mike show.  Had great conversation, killed hundreds of bugs on the first boat ride of the morning (as evidenced by the front of my boat and motor, my bald head, and Mike's cap), and boated quite a few fish....16 or 17.

Another great day on Cross.

Fished from daybreak till about 12:30 and yes once again Cross like proved to be a good time. Out of the 16+ fish three were solid overs with one going 4.2 pounds. Great day with a spinnerbait, couple on a trick worm and two or three on a texas worm. Didn't have much of a top water bite though.......
