Had a great time tonight guys! Fishing by itself is fun and relaxing, but tournaments are just better. This was my first time in a tournament, and I'll say that I'm hooked. I lost 2 big fish this evening, which left myself and Clint sick to our stomachs. Both of them got off right at the boat. I'm not sure if my line broke, or if my knots came untied, but I was and still am, totally disgusted. If any of you guys catch one later on with a bait in it's mouth, please return it to me! roll2 See ya'll on the 20th.

I had a great time too, but I have just never wanted to hit somebody with a net so much in my life!!! @!%#*$ Oh well I guess thats part of if huh. At least we found some fish and thats not bad for our third trip out there on cross and have never fished that particular area of the lake. I hope the fish are there for the next tourny.

Sounds like everyone had a good time. Tough luck about losing those big bass. I think they teach other bass how to throw hooks and make our lives miserable. Thanks for the contour map. I've been looking for something like that for ages.

Anyone seen any gators out here yet? The snakes sure are getting fierce, but I have yet to see a gator this year.

There are places on Cross that seem to get overfished a lot leading up to the tournament. I'm not sure if this is some kind of competitive strategy to catch what's in there beforehand so come the day of the tournament, there's nothing hanging around. They usually keep what is caught. After 5 boats come through in the morning and 5 or 6 more in the evening, the area is pretty quiet for a few days and nobody has any luck. I will say that privacy for home owners living on the lake is kinda pathetic. I finally get the after sunset rule for boats near docks. I know we get a lot of people fishing out here on the west end. It's a great place to fish. People are beating me to most of my favorite spots. Haha. I just wish people would mix it up a little. At least in a month or so, the moss will be too thick for any boats to come back here.

If ya see me out and about, I'm usually in one of those paddle boats (hence the member name I chose). It's great exercise, but hard to manage on a windy day.

I thought about posting a rant over in dock talk, but I don't wanna cause trouble. The main point that I want to get at is to simply be nice to other boaters/fishermen. I go out to enjoy the day and while catching fish is important, but fresh air and enjoying the weather and water is too.

Recent Cross Lake Experiences
Rough wakes knocking the bejeezus outta me, loud cell phone conversations/rings, not giving some "personal space" to others (don't crowd in - I've seen guys push their way in to make someone else move or even race them to a spot), and finally, people who leave line bunched up in trees that can easily be cut out

I had two guys come by me in a red boat at a good pace making me a little sea sick after their wake hit me seconds later. Later on that same day, they went right through where I was casting just 10 feet or so from my boat. I could have tapped their boat with the end of my rod. The wake got me that time and it ruined the spot I was fishing. There were plenty of other paths to take.

You guys are all probably pretty good about your lake ventures, so I won't rag on you. I just felt like making people aware of things. I'm sure the ones running the tournaments don't want their participants ruining the experience for everyone else.

I wish I could have hit myself with it. No worries now though. I've been practicing knots all day, and have restrung my reels with quality line, not that stuff they use behind the counter at BPS. We'll get um next time.

Roger that, I cant wait, with me finding the fish and you catching the big ones like you do, we might end up with some money after a few weeks of this.

Floater I know what you mean about politeness on Cross. I kinda saw that happening too, just kinda figured thats how people are gonna act during a tourny.

Caught a couple yesterday on buzzbait fishing weeds in about a foot of water. I think I'll try out the same today. I almost got a gar on it too. I rigged a smaller strike king buzzbait with a purple curly tailed worm. The added length disrupts the water pretty good. Now if only I could get around to adding some kind of trailer hook to the worm, I'll get the ones nippin at it.

(edit)
Today was pretty good considering I only spent about two and a half hours on the water from about 5:15pm to 7:30pm. I caught 3 bass, all about the same size on the same buzzbait. They tore the worm up good. I went through two of them. As you can see, the one in the photo took it pretty good. He ate the curled tail of the plastic worm.

At least they were all good fighters.

(another edit)
Wednesday was kinda fun, but only snagged one fish in the same spot as the others.

My girlfriend went with someone over in Texas on Lake Worth and caught close to 50 bass. If they are biting that good, we should see some action soon. They must have hit the spawn. I've never had that kind of luck my whole life.

Went to Cross for a little while Thursday after work...Kinda had to give up on my old hole due to all the gar in the area...

Searched for some new water on west end...Found some OK area...did finally catch a 17.5 inch in one area I liked and want to work that area a little more...

Got some other areas to check out to try and find something for the Thursday afternoon tournies...
