Are there any fishing expos or anything (like the boat show) in MN anymore?

You just missed one. It was January 8th-11th at the St. Paul River Center I believe. I always go to the Northwest Sportshow, It's March 25-29, 2015 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. In fact it's the only place I buy my rods, usually 30% off.

are there usually quite a few manufacturers bringing in gear?  I took a look at the website and it seems to be mostly boat manufacturers and not much fishing gear?  I'm seriously looking at the Duckett Ghost rod and nobody around here seems to have them, but if there's a chance I could pick one up there I'll wait.

Yes, several retailers will be there and the all offer discounts from the retail price. 20-30% off should be expected
