Forrest nailed a phone to a tree near the ruins of the plant and began to conduct business while friends helped clean up the rubble

Hope everyone's having a great week so far !
Can you tell us who is credited with creating the lure once described as
"A gaudy lure of red feathers, white bucktail, and two blades attached to a wire weedguard"
that eventually became today's "Spinnerbait" ?
Good luck and thanks for playing !

I don't have access to my books of antique lures at the moment but I seem to recall a spinnerbait from the late 1800's but i could be wrong.

Also, are you talking about bass style "safety pin" spinnerbaits or are you including inlines?

Great question buddy!!!  :)

Way Back Wednesday Trivia 2017 !!
« Reply #184 on: June 15, 2017, 09:38:16 PM »

Lol been a crazy day and won't get into all that but ..... Thomas appears to be half right according to my research lol :)
It was the Shannon twin spin by the William J. Jamison company , so he wins but I'm showing it as being introduced in 1915 ? Thanks so much for playing along everyone !!

Hold the phones !!!! I think Jim may have beat us all to the win actually !!! Sorry I had the Jamison company in mind and after looking somewhere else it appears that Shannon actually created the lure in 1915 , his son improved on the design and then in 1917 Jameson bought the rights !!! Lol so Jim got it right the first time and me and Thomas are trying to catch up
Here's the story from field and stream , http://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/honest-angler/2012/07/vintage-tackle-contest-shannon-twin-spinner#page-2
Sorry brothers I was on another page completely so it appears the field and stream
Article makes more sense as to how it unfolded.

Thanks guys. I was going include the history forward to Jamison marketing it but was in a rush and have never been a big copy/paste fan.

You know, whether it's a boat, bait, or event, there's a lot of interesting stuff involved in the history of bass fishing. :)

In 1918 Alan P. Jones and Urban Schreiner head to the Oxford butcher shop, pick up some pork back fat, and carve the first pork frogs.
A couple years later this dynamic duo created what bait company?

I agree with Lip.  I still have a couple pork frogs but hate to use them up.  I would LOVE to find an unsold lot.

Can you even find them anymore with all this plastic stuff that's made?

Uncle Josh stopped making the pork products.  :(

They said they could find a good supply of the quality pork fat they wanted. I suspect it was due more to declining sales as a lot of anglers have moved to plastics, but it's still a shame. There are still anglers who find a time and place for the venerable old pork frog.

I'm a little unclear after my quick research, I think the very first was a hollow rod in 1945 followed by Phantom Products release of a solid fiberglass rod in 1946. The Shakespeare Wonderod was also one of the first in 1946.

So I'm going with '46.

I think PM may be right, I now they were in use when Dad handed me a rod & reel in 48. He was proud of his new tech rod and French spinning reel!

That's the year I found also Jim

"Dr. Arthur M. Howald, technical director of the Plaskon Company, was one of the legions of individuals who experimented with fiberglass's strength and flexibility to create improved quality in existing products." The Dr. was fly fishing and broke the tip of his bamboo fly rod and went back to his lab and made a replacement tip from the fiberglass he was experimenting with. He got together with Mr. Shakespeare and their "Wonderod" was first introduced in 1946.
