Sometime between 1944 and 1947 Patent Rights were obtained by the Shakespeare Company for the first fiberglass fishing rod.  It was released in 1947 as the Howald Glastik Wonderrod.  Most fiberglass rods at Shakespeare were tested as flyrods and then moved into other forms.

I believe that was 1972 at Lake Kissimmee, FL and was won by one of my Favorites, Tom Mann.

Hope everyone is having a great week so far !
This Oklahoma fisheries biologist decided he was going pro after winning what was the biggest payout of a BASS event up to that point.
Can you tell us this anglers name and what the event was that paid out this all time high 1st prize money ?

If we are talking Classics, the nod of the hat goes to Rick Clunn with 75 lb, 9 oz in total weight.

For the largest weight in a BASS Tournament the applause goes to "Mr. Kneel and Reel", Paul Elias with 132 lbs, 8 ounces on Falcon Lake in 2008.

Ha ha ! Stumped you guys :)
This record has stood for about 48 years now :) much earlier than the Paul Elias record.
