which reel for what rod
« on: April 10, 2006, 05:56:27 PM »

:help: I was thinking of switching out reels with different rods and thought I'd ask your opinions

rods and reels as they are now;
gloomis MBR 843c GLX 7' M/H w/ curado SF with 20# fluro used for jigs and worms
gloomis CBR 843c 7' Med w/ curado SF with 8 lb mono used for small crankbaits
BPS extreme woo davis 7' M/H worm w/ curado 5.1:1 with 15# fluro used for spinningbaits lure wt 3/8 oz to 1 oz
unknown brand 7' M/H w/ curado 3.8:1 with 17 lb mono used for deep diving crankbaits (DD22's)
just bought a new rod and reel
BPS extreme 7' M/H lure wt 3/8 oz to 1 1/2 oz used for silver buddies, spoons heavy lures don't throw over 1 oz usually
The new curado 7.0:1 probably going to put 12 to 14 lb mono on it.
thinking of putting new reel on gloomis mbr series and the 5.1 on the crankbait and moving the SF's to the extreme rods.  :help: :-\
any help would be appreciated

I throw the same reel....I have 6 diawa advantage reels.  I put them on assorted rods.  The heaviest rods are my flippin' rods....and lighter rods for s. baits and top water......but this is just me.  you'll get a zillion diffrent answers to this one ;)

I think Spetro is right........you are going to get as many different answers as you got anglers......I personally use medium heavy rods and middle of the stream reel ratios for most of my techniques the combos I use is based on the type of junk I fish in...... my height and the water clarity.....
