Trailer electrical problems and the elimination there of; if you have an intermittent problem with the lights because of a ground, many times it's at the trailer hitch, instead of bouncing the receiver up and down or pulling it to clean any rust run a jumper wire from the trailer through a water proof plug to the tow vehicle, easy and it works. Ask me how I know.
Many trailers have those silly little side lights that quit working rather quickly and you can't figure out right away, and ground wires at the main lights that just use a screw. Take these spots and  cover them with silicone sealant on both sides or if you can't reach a side move the ground to a spot where you can then seal it.
90 % of problems can be found with a inexpensive test light and a systematic search for the problem, just start by checking for power at the light, if yes check the ground side and go from there til you find it.
