Got this in the mail today. I know, I know, another dang reel. Lol. This was a helluva good deal for a reel that is in really good condition. No box or papers, but I dont care. This reel is gonna get stripped down and new gears are gonna be added, as well as a few other things. This reel is gonna be used, and not just put on the shelf. This thing is killer smooth, and is a top notch reel by Shimano, even in todays standards. I will keep posting on the tear down so you can see how its all gonna come together. Here are some pictures of the reel.

Took the Antares down tonight to get it ready for cleaning and new parts. Come to find that I'm pretty sure this reel has never been opened up.

First, you have to remove two screws from the backside of the handle.

Then the nut, star, drag nut and springs.

Open the sideplate to remove the spool.

This will reveal the sideplate screws. Well, 3 of them. Lol.

You have to remove the final sideplate screw after you remove the palm plate pivot/hold assembly. First, pop the c clip off that's in front of the washer.

This will show you the order of things on the palm plate slide.

This will now reveal the last screw for the sideplate.

That you get through this little hole in the frame. Lol.

Sideplate screws out shown here.

You then unscrew these 2 screws by the line guide, as well as one on the palm plate side in the rear to remove the hood to get the sideplate off.

With the hood off, you can then remove the sideplate.

Remove the drive shaft and gears.

Then you can remove the clutch assembly.

Pop the c clip to start removing the thumb bar assembly.

Slide the bottom bar out after removing the slide plate, c clip, and washer. (shown in pic just above frame).

This shows the thumb bar components.

Then you can remove the pawl cap.

To remove the worm shaft you have to remove the c clip and washer.

Slide the worm shaft out (as you can see is bearing supported in this reel).

Then you can remove all the levelwind components.

And there is the full breakdown.

So at 5am I decided to put the reel back together while I had the chance. Its all greased up and smooooooooth as butter.

This baby blings all on its own. Shes got a new thumb bar, new drag by carbontex, new set of gears, new frame and spool bearings, and a few new bushing parts. Now to get it on the water for some action.
