New Shimano Metanium MGL Casting Reel 150HG 7.4:1
« on: May 16, 2017, 10:04:13 PM »

Received my new Shimano Metanium MGL Casting Reel 150HG 7.4:1 and tested out today first time. I bought the reel to pair with a Lee Smith Custom I have on order.

To test it I put it on a St. Croix Premier PC66MHF rod that has a Curato 200 6.3.1 that I use for single bladed lures (spinners, buzz, chatters), with exact same line on it the Curato 200 has (spider wire Ultrcast mono 12lb) with a 3/8 bladed spinner bait.

I went to regular spot I fish in local pond and threw some fan casts to known spots to see if the Metanium did indeed throw father with all else being equal. I am happy to report it throws WAY farther. As matter of fact my casts were reaching targets I could never hit before and was even throwing over area I could never reach with existing setup.

I hesitate to guess how much further the casts were but it was very noticable and much further. The Metanium was super smooth casting and retrieving.

I can't wait to get my new 7'3" stick to see this thing really fly.....

Yeah, that Metanium has the improved version of the Infinity braking system, and the MGL spool. Makes the Curado I look like a piece of junk...well...actually the Curado I is a piece of junk in my opinion.

Good deal. I have two XG's and love them. I put a bearing in the worm gear and swapped the spool bearings out for ZR's. They scream now. Even stock out of the box, they blow a lot of reels out of the water.

Next to the Shimano D series line, they are my favorite

Awesome! I've only played with these reels as they are a little out of my price range  :surrender: but I am saving my pennies....

I'm a lover of the Curado I, but do tweak it  ~shade

Same here. Great little reels. Free spools like crazy with new bearings. Casts great too. Love the curado i.

And right now on ebay you can pick up a Metanium HG for $200.00 and an MGL for $275.00. Not too far out there...
