Mega Imaging Transducer location
« on: June 10, 2017, 08:47:39 PM »

Need some suggestions on where to mount my Mega SI transducer. Should I try yo put it where my old one is? or right above my drain plug?

Pics for reference:

When the XPTH version is released, under the transom extension next to the drain hole is a good  place.
The included transom transducer is 8" long with mount so putting it where the speedometer tube is not a good place unless you have a jackplate---typical for most bass boats.
Where you have marked is OK, still would need the proper setup for your hull which is shoot-thru XP 9 20 transducer in the bilge.
If the one you have now works on plane, you can pair that with the MEGA transducer using the MSIDB Y cable.

Example of a XPTH thru-hull SI transducer:

The one I have now doesn't work on plane, but Im not too concerned about that at this time.  Just trying to find a good spot to mount the mega SI ducer to get a good image and keep new holes in the boat to a minimum. Unfortunately I do not have a jack plate.

The image you posted looks like the same style boat. Did you ever mount the mega SI transducer on that boat before?

Wayne, when is the XPTH version available? I saw it listed on Humminbird's website already for $400.00, I think I'm going to try putting the Mega SI transducer where my old compact transducer is. The speedometer tube sits further back than the 8'' the Mega transducer will extend, so I think I'll be OK there. The bigger transducer will be slightly vulnerable where my old one is, but if anything ever happens I'll bite the bullet and go with the XPTH

Late reply, been traveling fishing.

The last I saw posted was July for the XPTH MEGA transducer.

I am not an installer, just know how and where for most hulls if I see a picture of the transom.
I copied the picture from another website for the XPTH HDSI transducer.

Since the MEGA mount is different from the XNT in your picture, you will have more holes to deal with.

The HDSI and MEGA SI transducers use a different mount than the plastic XNT mount you have, so you will be adding additional holes in the hull.

Thanks Wayne.
To deal with the additional holes issue, I went with a transducer mount and TONS of boat Life fiberglass sealant.

Mounting the transducer is tonight's project, after the sealant sets.

I got the head unit mounted using a short arm RAM mount, and ran the power straight from the cranking battery. Works good in simulations mode.

After the the Transducer is mounted all that will be left is running the Ethernet cable to the 800 series unit I have on the bow.

I'm really excited to use this, it's a major upgrade over my old system!

Holy moly. Big transducer. Hope this thing works on the water with minimal adjustments. This is the most expensive piece of technology I've ever purchased.
