BASS and FLW schedules
« on: July 17, 2017, 10:24:46 AM »

Both are on the front page now.

I just noticed that BASS isn't fishing Florida in February? Wonder why. Seems like they go to the Big O or the Harris Chain regularly?

A lot of people think they pick a lake and go fish it but there is lot more involved in that. First and foremost the town, parish or county, and or visitors bureau must submit a packet to entertain the thought of them coming to your area. Most people don't realize that the reason they don't come to their area is because the local powers at be don't ever request for them to come or they don't see it as a big enough economic impact to put forth the money to have one of these events. On the other hand those that have seen the economic impact that these tournaments bring to their area are all to eager to have them back. A perfect example of this is the Sabine River. Orange Texas puts on a heck of a show out there and they pull out all the stops. This is why you have had three elite events and one open event there in the past 5 years on the Sabine.

The fact that you have a great fishery means very little. It can play into some final decision making but this is a business and money talks in business.

I know all to well what you're saying  ~c~ But it still surprises me that Florida didn't push to get on the list. I know the Big O has it's controversy but the Harris Chain always makes for a great tournament. Hard to believe that they state didn't apply?

I love the Sabine on the list. It provides a very difficult place to fish and forces the elites to work hard. Yeah the stringers aren't record setting but to me there is more to be learned as a spectator at a tough event. What does surprise me a little is that they draw some record crowds for the Sabine river yet the Classic over in Houston was a flop. I'm betting it was the fact that it was in the dead center of Houston more than anything...

I do hope BASS keeps throwing some new water in the mix each year. I think this is the best test of the best. Especially with the new rules. Anglers will have to go find their own stuff on a new lake

I'd like to see them go back to Pittsburgh! Waddington, way up in the middle of nowhere on the St. Lawrence draws record crowds and when I say it's in the middle of nowhere trust me, it's probably 5 hours from my house. I'm a bit surprised that we haven't had another in Buffalo, of course weather can a tournament very quickly there.

I think the Classic was deceiving. There were more people there than what it looked like. The problem is the venue was way to large. A normal classic draws anywhere from 13,000 to 16,000 a day give or take a few thousand either way. Most venues that they host classics in are 16 to 20 thousand seat venues so it always looks like a packed house. When you go to a venue that holds 80,000 people well it's going to look bad. Not to mention the stage and everything was set so far back it made it look worse. As for the crowds at Sabine, well I don't know but it is astonishing. We went to final day weigh in this year for the opens and there were more people there than what you see at most Elite events.

I spoke with BASS officials several times and they were extremely disappointed in the attendance. But they said that they finally had a classic in a ball field so it's over and they don't have to do it again :surrender:

Oh I can imagine they were disappointed. They hyped that thing up so much and then they thought it would be huge because they were Houston. You know they going to have a hard time beating the crowds in Shreveport. ~bb

I don't know if Shreveport will ever be broken. I think what hurt Houston the most is people didn't want to deal with down town. Shreveport is a great size, not to big to make navigating difficult and in a good location for travelers.

I would think that Birmingham would have a good shot. It's down town isn't too bad.

BASS is going through a lot of changes right now. I sure hope they get their minds straight and go with what works. This last classic was a disaster if you ask me. It looks to me like their future is live streaming. They have been pushing that very hard and if you noticed their TV shows are less than par especially combining two tournaments into one show. I think their contract is about up with ESPN and they probably looking to cut cost on producing the shows. Something I did notice is there are quite a few tournaments this year with final day weigh ins on Mondays. That is a WTF move on their part. Are you trying to kill your final day weigh in crowds? I really don't understand that move. They may know something I don't but it just seems a little crazy.

Yeah I don't see any good in a Monday weigh in? But for the guys that do it for a living, maybe there is something that benefits them?
