papa,

Steve & I will be hitting Caddo tonight, so we should have at least 5 Lunkers for you to put in.  We will give a full fishing report of our success - right Steve?

A couple of weeks ago we decided to cull some Bass so Trey and Dusty got some gold fish to use for bait. They caught about 15 or so with the biggest five going 26 lbs on my digital scales. we took every Bass under 18 inches that we caught out and had a fish fry. according to my records, give or take a few that may have died or just won't bite there should be about 18 to 20 Bass left with 10 to 12 of those over 4 lbs. 2 over 7 and 1 over 8, Of course those are cool weather weights for the most part, so I am sure they are high for this time of year. But if anyone catches a 5 or better and wants to put her in the "LAKE" you are welcome. Also any  Bream. My goal is to raise a 1 lb. Bream and a 10 lb. Bass!

Well, Steve and I had a great time last night fishing Caddo.  Didn't have much luck, but Steve caught a couple nice fish - including a FAT 4-5 pounder.  What a boat, Steve!  Had a great time, and look forward to fishing with you again (hopefully sooner than later!).

My wife is talking to me again already!!!:)

Like Gabby said, fished Caddo last nite, got there about 7:20, ran to Tucker area, fished top water and buzz baits, no luck, not even a roll, a lot of shad schools but nothing eating them.  Moved to the Jackson Arm area and fished until about 11pm covered a lot of water, threw blades, buzzers, chuggers, walkers, squirmers, kitchen sinks, hogs, jitters, widows, gators, babys, pups, NO luck!!  moved to johnson ranch area and gvt ditch area, threw all of the above, no luck, not even a "was that a bite Huh "  Finally managed 2 fish almost back to back on a 12" squirmer, red shad, in the main river, then nothing.  I did have 2 fish get my "cricket" but they were probably tight eyes.  Quit at 1am, did not want Gabby to get in too much trouble with his spousal unit since she is due in Sept to present the earth with a mini-Gabby.

Hope I did not sour Gabby on bass fishing in general, I told him he was fishing with the "curse".  His enthusiasim for the sport is matched only by his eagerness to learn, but one trip with the "curse" can shatter anyone's confidence  Grin  Grin

See ya in the funny papers

Sour me on bass fishing?  Your chance at doing that is about as fat as that nice fish you caught last night!!!  There have been MANY times I have gone fishing and not even had a bite - but as you said last night, "a bad fishing trip is better than a good day at work."

I had a great time still, didn't get into too much trouble  Grin, and made a new fishing buddy.  I really appreciate you taking me!  Look forward to doing it again.  BTW, I am the curse - not you, my friend!

Gabby

P.S. - Bonds is definately available.  Let me look at your roster, and I'll make a pitch.

Now I might have to disagree about the Cobra....it even lost a battle with a channel marker on Caddo....hahahahaha.

There is a channel marker out there with "WILDFIRE"  imprinted on the side that shivers every time I go by , it still has some blue and silver paint on it.

Like Mr. Cork said...the channel markers haven't moved in years; so you would think that people wouldn't hit them.  Maybe we should sanction an obstacle course race between Papa and Mike...raise some money for the club.

Took the NASCAR Rocket out for a test run, trying a 27pitch Tempest 3 blade, a little slow out of the hole but did not blow out like I thought it would with the plugs out.  The prop ran fine but could not turn more than 5200 to 5300 fully trimed.  got to 71mph on gps, not bad, but I was doing that with the 25 3 blade I had on it.  Oh well, I guess I need a Jack Plate to tweak it.

Any way, went up the river above the hwy 43 bridge to test a couple of holes I had caught fish last year, they were high and dry, the river is down at least 2 -3 ft from when I was there last, managed 3 dinks and one fish that I could not turn that ran to the deep water then pulled off, would have liked to see what kind of swimmer it was.

If any one is interested, it is 20.7 miles from Earl G. Williamson launch to the 43 bridge and I went 10 miles beyond that to fish.  used less than 3 Q of a tank (15 Gal) and traveled over 60miles most of which was WFO, about 4mpg, I guess that is OK with the HPDI   Undecided .

Went to Caddo Sunday with Vickers. Had a decent bite until about 11am. 3 unders, a probable over, and a couple of slot fish. All came on worms. Had a hog on a shallow crank bait that came unhooked, then noticed that the hooks on the back had been bent out, love those strike king elite hooks. Had quite a few fish blow up on a frog in deeper pads but either failed to conect or by the time we could get to them they had come undone.

Any way we are going to try and go tonight if the weather agrees, if not tomorrow and again later in the week. I love being on vacation.

Vacation is when one decides to take time off from work in order to go night fishing with a full moon. Planning this ahead of time garentees heavy thunderstorms. Wink Wink

I know vacations....had one two weeks ago.  I have another schedule in four weeks.  That is the time when you leave work behind, fish a lot, and most importantly you practice for retirement.

Of course, when you operate a slush fund you really can't take a vacation because someone else might find it!!!!!

Don't tell Papa they are hitting frogs in pads.  He will have his extra, extra stiff rod and 500 pound test line....hawg hunting.

Enjoy your vacation....I'm counting down until my next one.
