FLW Cup Expo Entrance
« on: August 12, 2017, 03:16:46 PM »

On Friday, I visited the FLW Cup Expo in Columbia, SC.  The event was held at the convention center in downtown Columbia.  This facility is easy to find and a parking garage is directly across the street and all parking for this event was free of charge.  Shuttle busses would take you to the lake location or to the weigh in location and these too were free.

Vendor participation at this event is about the same or possibly even a bit less than the last cup expo held here.  Most vendors were small dealers but a few main sponsors of FLW were present.  The most elaborate set up was by Ranger Boats with all of their bass boat models displayed.  All the boats were equipped with Evinrude HO class motors.  Evinrude also had a large set up and was immediately next to the Ranger area.
FLW was giving away a fully equipped Z521C as a drawing prize.  Also present was Forrest Wood who would sign autographs if you signed up and had a ticket stub.  His personal appearance was very limited and also included a live interview with the TV folks.  Mr. Wood was very frail and had an assistant that helped him around and I suspect also provided some level of security

Other vendors with elaborate displays were TH Fishing, Costa, Quaker State and Lawrence.  The TH area had tons of stuff to look at and was always full of visitors.  There were over 100 vendors present consisting mostly of smaller companies.  Most displays were for common items and did not really include much in the was of new or different products.  No reel manufactures were represented although a few of the vendors had some reels for sale. On another post I will talk about other items I noticed.  All in all it was an OK day in a good facility and the crowds were large so I guess that was a good thing.  Aside from the Ranger display set up there were no other OH WOW moments.  I did have a moment to chat briefly with Jimmie Houston and later on with Hank Parker.  I even ran into SCWild Bill who was working a booth and will post his picture later.
