Eel grass help needed
« on: August 13, 2017, 01:07:17 AM »

Most of a lake I fished today was full of eel grass. I have never fished it before and got zero bites out of it.
I threw a spinnerbait, texas rig, jig, and topwater.
Any suggestions on what else I should try.

Sounds like you were throwing some of the same things I would. T-rigged craw, maybe a weightless superfluke, and top water.

Swimbaits seem to work down here in eel grass. 1/8oz weight.
I like fishing that stuff.

Everything else you threw seems right on point. I think it was just a tough day for fishing in your area.
you might be able to get the right crank bait in there and maybe tick the top of the eel grass with it.

Just a bad day for ell grass, you have the right ideas. Sometimes they aren't in it.

Did you try getting up inside it? Sometimes the fish will burrow in deep.

Like Rodney said, get into the grass, try a heavier weight on the T-rig especially if the waters clear.  The bass like to bury up in that stuff.

Zip, focus on eel grass that mixes in or around other types of vegetation. We have a Preserve here in South FL that's several thousand acres of primarily eel grass.

Thanks guys!

I was looking for mixtures of vegetation but was only throwing 1/4 oz. weights on the T-rig. Did not throw a swimbait but will try it next time.

Rip a lipless crank through it. Swim jigs soft plastics or a lipless is my go to in eel grass

Dang, that's the heaviest weighted hook I have, that should have been plenty to get your lure down there.  Like others have said, they don't always bite.

Used to fish eel grass a lot in San Diego. Weighted head swimbait. Reel it slow enough to where you feel it ticking the top and rip it out, thats when they like to hit it.
