In Need of Experienced Users
« on: August 20, 2017, 02:49:26 PM »

I am switching out all of my rods this year to Dobyns. I have some Champion XP's, Sierra and Sierra Micro, and a Savvy. How much difference is there between the Champion XP line and the Champion HP line in regards to to feel and action. I would like to know so that if it really is that much better than the XP's I can save some more pennies for them. Thanks in advance.

There is a You Tube video of Gary explaining the difference in actions between all of the lines of Dobyns rods here:

IMO feel is a subjective thing. What feels good to one might feel terrible to someone else. You may have a harder time getting definitive answers on that one.

IMO the HPs are worth the pennies. They are lighter and more sensitive. In the beginning I had some of both but mostly XP's and I always felt as though they were awesome. I never consciously wanted for more in the rods, but if you look at my boat now it's filled with HP's  :-\ not sure how that happened ~b~

I personally like the overall action of the slightly longer rod and you'll notice all the HP's have an extra inch, this factors into the action quite a bit. For my style of fishing (mostly shallow target orientated) the HP series is the way to go.

In many cases the DX models "shut off" quicker so they provide more power. Not true on all models though. I will say that the Champion Series is the backbone of the company and I'll admit I personally use about 90% Champions myself. There's a few DX rods I love but I could get by with all Champions easy too. Now I do prefer to sell DX rods  ;D

And it is for reasons like this one from Gary that I have sold all of my rods and I am switching over to ALL Dobyns rods. I have never had a company, much less a company owner, be so involved and actually tell you the truth about whatever you ask him. Gary thank you, from now on it is ALL Dobyns for me.
