which motor, manufacturer question
« on: August 22, 2017, 07:16:18 AM »

reading through a different thread..
http://www.ultimatebass.com/bass-fishing-forum/index.php?topic=137468.0;topicseen

I wanted to ask a question:
using the 198p (Ranger aluminum) as an example, rated for 150hp max...

when optimized, what would top end expectations be for various outboards?
Yamaha 150
Etec G2 150
Etec 150 hp
Merc Opti Xs 150

add others, correct nomenclature as you like..

I would think about 60mph. The Yammy might crank out a couple more due to slightly higher gearing.

I can help with the Mercury 150 pro xs.  2 stroke direct injection.  Estimated is 55 to 60 mph. on the BBC board, others get these speeds and a couple more depending on their set up.

A quick search turned up this from Boating Magazine.

The 198P isn't that much lighter than some of it's glass counterparts but, with a magic prop I'd bet it would hit low to mid 60s.

The Yammer Hammer will get a few more mph. If Yamaha's last the first year without blowing, they will last practically forever. They are bullet proof. My 1992 Ranger 374 weighed about 1400 lb.. It would hit 66 mph with a full load. It had a Johnson 150 Fast Strike.

Yup! You had the 170+ model 150!  ~roflmao Those old Fast Strikes and Intruders were all producing about 15% above their rated HP.
