Kastking White Max
« on: September 13, 2017, 10:25:37 AM »

Does anybody have firsthand experience with the Kastking White Max? Looking for a good but cheap crankbait reel. This reel is an 11 bearing, 5.3:1 gear ratio.

Have it , own several kast kings. White max is my least favorite. No mater what I do I get birds nest when casting crankbaits. I took it off completely and replaced with kast king assassin and have no issues. I wouldn't recommend white max.

I would get the cheapest thing Lew's has to offer before I'd try KastKing.

Not a fan of the carbon fiber frames. Not much out there in the $50 price range that isn't a plastic frame though.

I don't have to get one, I currently have a Lews Tournament Pro with a 6.4:1 gear ratio on my cranking rod which would probably work fine...just thought if i got a low gear ratio reel I could move the Lews to another rod.

I just picked up a Daiwa Exceler for $50. I'm still waiting for it to arrive so no use yet. There is also the Laguna that can be had for $50-$60 online. Now ymmv but I'd rather have a faster reel, you can always slow down is my thought.

Id take a Lew's SSG1S 10 to 1 over the Kastking. You actually get a metal frame. A reel that is compact yet comfortable to hold, along with a company with outstanding support if needed. Just my

I would stick with the lews. A 6 gear is the slowest I use. For my topwater treble baits, cranks, chatterbaits, and spinnerbaits.

Pretty much agree with all the above posts--get the Lew's--If you own a Tournament Pro you are not going to be happy with the Kastking. If you want a good reel for a reasonable price go to Ebay and check out the prices on the SSG1S there. More than likely there will  not be much price difference and I am sure it is a lot better reel than the Kastking.  I am like Mike--have no use for a carbon fiber frame.
