Line for vibrating baits
« on: September 15, 2017, 05:53:00 AM »

Looking for best line to use on a new incoming rod, it will be paired with a Shimano Metanium MGL Casting Reel 150HG.

Rod will be for vibrating lures mostly up to 5/8, some 3/4. Currently use 12lb SpiderWire Ultracast mono. Any advantage of going to braid or another line?

Thanks.

12 lb mono for 3/4oz chatterbaits, yikes...

I'd be using 16lb. Sunline Sniper FC.

braid. Mono and Fluoro both stretch, and if you want to use either, you will get the same results, just make sure to use a thicker line to help with the stretch. At least something in the .015 to .020 range. Even with that you will have a hard time getting good hooksets at long distances.

if you are going to be doing any close in work near wood and docks I would definitely say up the pound rating.  On my lake I throw 20 pound around the metal boat lifts and wood docks and retie often.
