Quiet Waters Park 9/17/17
« on: September 17, 2017, 01:09:31 PM »

Location : Quiet Waters Park
Conditions
Weather: Blue bird skies
Wind: about 10
Temp: 90
Water Visibility: 2-3 ft
Time: 8am - 12pm

After getting skunked 2X at Vista View Park in previous days I decided to try a different place. Headed to Quiet Waters Park and met up with Rick.

Finding a Pattern
We went for a few hours with not a single bite. Tried different topwater, spinnerbaits, swim jigs and nothing. When all else fails, it's time to bring out the senko . Rick caught the first bass on a worm which made things look promising.

Otter?
After Rick caught his bass, he told me an otter was making noises at him seeing that he caught a bass. After Rick released his bass, Rick thought that the otter was upset because it could have been breakfast I thought it was humorous and than the otter came to me 40 ft from where Rick was and began making noises at me and left. Who knows what the otter wanted but back to fishing stuff.

Finding the Spot
I found an area that bends that almost looks like a channel with underwater grass on the other side.

I threw out my worm and once it hit bottom, the line start to move so I set the hook and was reward with the below fish.

I stayed there for the rest of the day because I kept on getting bites. I think I got a total of 6 fishing in that spot, mostly dinks but a couple of ok ones.

It was a fun fishing trip, just wish there were more spots to fish the bank without trees in the way or a 2ft drop to the water

What is the worst thing about being a bank fisher? Always having to watch out for dog poop LOL

Great report Roberto. Happy you figured them out and caught yourself some fish. I was surprised when Rick told me an otter approached him. That's rare. I haven't seen a wild otter for years.

Nice catch! I sometimes fish that place on my lunch break. It's an old mining pit. If you ever get a chance, walk the bike trails over to the SW an W banks for a mix of hard bottom and light grass.

Thanks for the report and my senkos has chased the skunk away many of a day. ~sweat Glad  y'all caught some fish and they don't look to bad. ~c~ ~c~ I've never had a wild otter approach me either. They usually dive under the water and swim away.

It was tough today I had limited baits with me. Most my stuff was in the car. I wasn't really expecting to walk that far from my big tackle box in the car.

I tried all kinds of stuff early from topwaters, to spinnerbaits, to jigs, cranks and some soft plastics.

Managed to catch one. It was pretty funny, I thought I had seen an otter pop its head out of the water not far from me, at one point but it ducked back in the water quickly. I walked down the bank quite a bit and caught a fish at the next stop. I toss the bass back in the water and this otter pops its head out and starts making sounds at me. It was looking right at me but I have no clue if it was a playful sound, a threatening sound or just saying hello lol. I've never actually encountered an otter. Then it went under and swam away and must have gone over to Roberto.
This being a county park with camping and water sports, I can't imagine the otter is 100% wild. I'm sure it's used to seeing people all the time.

You two made quite an away trip today.  I have seen otters in the wild a few times and they usually keep their distance.  I'm sure they get handouts from time to time at the park.  Great you caught a couple of decent bass, especially after driving that far.  Way to go guys. ~c~

I passed by there yesterday. Lots of people take trolling motors and Jon boats out there for the day. Looks like it could be fun to fish.

Yeah it's a nice lake. Has some really deep areas but has plenty of vegetation has rock has sand. Extremely clear water.

It's got grass islands like Kissimmee. It also has some nice size bass in it.
They used to rent canoes and they let you take your own trolling motor but I'm not sure if that's still in place. I wasn't aware that you could take your own Jon boat though. They don't really advertise that. Also their marina is closed. They used to rent them paddle boats too.
I think it would be a Great Lake to fish from a watercraft instead of land. You are kind of limited on land and finding open bank to cast from requires a bit of walking. Some banks are way too high to land a decent bass from.

Nice park.

The Wife and I took Cambridge there one day about a year ago. There was some kind of kids bass tournament going on. Was pretty neat to watch them weigh in.
