A little help, please
« on: November 10, 2017, 11:50:32 AM »

I will never be able to hunt again so I'm selling my bird guns. One is a 10 year old Citori that was used 3-4 times. I priced it's worth on Gun Broker and other sites. The other is a British 10 gauge goose gun made by Leed's in Wales. I was made right after WII. It was my uncle's gun and he hunted a lot. I can't find the gun on the net and Leed's is out of business. The buyer at my range will buy it but he can't find the value. He will give the lower end value for a 10 gauge. Does anyone know how much a 10 gauge goose gun would go for?
It is a full choke without choke tubes. If you don't watch out the recoil can put you on your rear.

Have you checked Shooter's Bible? If I had one, I'd look. It may be worth having a professional appraisal by an expert.

Just texted a buddy who's in the business. Let you know if he has any info.

He couldn't find anything. Checking with a dealer in England.

It may be worth more as a collectors item than as shooter, many of the British guns were custom made with a LOT of hand work.

There is little filigree work on the gun. I believe Leed's was on the less expensive end of the price scale.

I can't find any sort of reference to a pre or post war manufacturer by the name of Leed, Leeds, or Leed's, or manufacturers from the city of Leeds.
It wouldn't be associated with Leeds Royal Armouries, that wasn't established until the 1980's.

Closeup pics of the markings, and pic of whole gun?

I'm a little red faced about this post. A collector at my range looked at the shotgun. He said the style made it about 50 years older than I thought. It was probably made by someone in Wales but the name Leeds was put on later. He said Leeds was probably an owner of the gun. Could it be fired? He said the mechanism works but it shouldn't be fired because of ageing. I asked if it had any value.? He said probably not. It seems that the least expensive Welsh guns from that time didn't have manufacturer's marks. If it was a well known gun maker, they didn't want their mark on cheap weapons. I'll just take it apart and dispose of it. I'm not a shotgun guy and learned a few things. My uncle hunted in the Mississippi sloughs for ducks and geese. He didn't want to use his expensive guns. Every year he went to a pawn shop and bought a cheap shotgun. At the end of the season, he broke it apart and threw it into the swamp. I guess he decided to keep one.
