2003 evinrude 175hp opinions??
« on: November 12, 2017, 11:48:41 PM »

Any thoughts/opinions on a 2003 evinrude 175hp 2 stoke outboard ? Im looking at a 03 ranger with the evinrude.
I've come across a lot of evinrude bashing  due to the problems of their early years , again any input would be greatly appreciated.

Have the motor checked out by a pro, if all is well good deal, if there are issues it would depend on what.

The Ficht motors had a lot of issues. They are screaming motors! I think most of the ones that survived are those whose owners responded to the recalls and service bulletins.

If you're really serious about it, pay a shop to go over it good. Preferably not the owner's shop. Get the history logs from the computer, compression test results, and lower unit. $100-$150 now could save you $5000-$6000 later.

I had an 225 01 Ficht on a Stratos 201 that ran like a champ with zero issues.  But, with Ficht motors, you either get a great one or a bad one...
