What's with all the Smallmouth haters in Washington
« on: November 14, 2017, 12:10:53 PM »

I was reading an article where the general consensus among anglers is the small mouth bass is bad for the Columbia.

With the way Washington regulates the fisheries I'm sure the state would be doing something if it were true.  :-\

I saw that Mike and had to laugh.  lo That state makes and changes the rules so much you have to watch real close or you might be breaking the law when you go out fishing.

It's not only smallmouth but bass in general.
My opinion and what I hear most is that it's politically motivated.  Bass both small and large mouth are easy prey for the fisheries because it's not as big of a fishery as other species.  I think that if it was possible and up to the WDFW they would eliminate all bass from all waters.  I hear locals complain all the time about how many salmon, kokanee and trout fry the bass eat without anything to substantiate their claim.
As Lip mentioned, there are constant changes to seasons and regulations on most species, except bass.  I have seen as many as six changes in one day.  Most of the regulation changes occur on species the WDFW controls with their stocking and management, which bass is not one of them.  They don't stock bass and in most waters the season runs all year when other species have designated seasons and a big number of those change during the season.
So what does this tell you?  Maybe poor management?
