past few days
« on: November 24, 2017, 08:36:00 AM »

had some time off, so I burned some gas and saw some country through the windshield spending time on a few different lakes.

Black Warrior River, Tuscaloosa:  went down to see if I could find a magnum spot.  nope.  8 of them all between 1 and 1.5 pounds.  7 road hours.  two tanks of gas.

Melton Hill, knoxville:  went up to the steam plant to see if the stripers were in there.  perhaps.  but not based on what I caught.  one long largemouth of about 1.5 on a DT10 in river shad.  thought for a bit I had one of those line-sided freight trains... nope. 4 road hours.  one tank of gas.

impressive specimen though.  fought like a champ.  28 inches long.  thick, big-boned.  real brute.

always fascinated at the color of these things out of the TN river.  Real bronze.  Not silver like most drum.  Love the scale patterns.  Lot of beauty in these things (if you're not in a tournament

yesterday went down on the river below Chickamauga as they are running pretty heavy current 45K cfs.  Again nothing big, did manage a few 15" bass late in day on jerkbaits.  one spot.  one smallmouth.  clearly feeding up ahead of winter.

Steve, since you are in TX I know you'll get this.  I grew up in Kansas, Nebraska.  No such thing as a non-lake advisory wind speed day.   lo

down here, I can count on one hand the number of days the big lake (Chickamauga) gets rocking and rolling.  a 'heavy wind day' is when the wind speeds are over 10 mph.

different world for certain.

Like the way you put your trips, "I burned some gas and saw some country through the windshield".

Sorry the fishing wasnít better but I miss those drives to some degree. Here I have 8 lakes within 30 minutes and a 10 foot rise in the road is a mountain. Swamp, pine trees and cotton feild is our only countryside.

Iíve never seen a drum that color?   Very cool   8)

Oh it is absolutely awesome and I'm very spoiled. When I was due for assignment we got to pick 8 bases. We listed all A.F. bases out on tickets and arranged them by best fishing, then closet to family  ~roflmao

I've never been one to shy away from 'those other fish'.  In a catch/release world, it's all about heart and will.  and I never want to give folks the impression that all I catch are 'world class bass'.  truth is they're about as scarce as hen's teeth.   ;D

these bad boys will give good account

Mike:  where I grew up, they were all silver.  Here, I think it has to do with a high amount of mollusks/clams in their diet.

this particular specimen was about as pretty as they get.
