New tow vehicle.... got a Tundra
« on: January 09, 2018, 08:32:16 AM »

anyone towing with one?  What do you like/not like besides the MPG?  So far I love this thing.  I was in an F150 for 11 years and had a Tacoma before that.  I've been told that towing my 18 ft. Bass Cat will be like it's not even back there but haven't had a chance to hook on yet.  Should get the chance the last weekend of this month.

Congratulations on the new tow rig! Close friend has an older one. Bought it new and swears he'll be buried in it.

Congrats great ride and towwer...my one complaint with the Tundra was a small gas tank. Looks like they have fixed that in new ones. I rent one when I go to Florida in the winter. Tows my 21 Triton great. Had to settle for a Tacoma once.....not so good.

My sister used to tow her 21' Tahoe deck boat with a Tundra and sometimes a Sequoia. Actually, I towed her boat with her vehicles until she felt comfortable enough to do it herself. These were the later models after everyone started building monster trucks instead of reasonably sized half ton trucks.

If you don't keep one eye on your boat, you might just forget it's there. The only difference I felt between loaded/unloaded was a bit of understeer if I tried to take curves a bit faster than I really should have.

Congrats on the truck. I have noticed with the people that like them they really like them a lot. Several people I know have had 2 or 3 of them and seem to still like them. As for pulling, these guys I know never have owned a trailer much less a boat. They are like the umm how do you say it nicely... nerd guy who wanted a truck? The beds of their truck get potting soil and groceries pretty much. lo So I cant say how they like pulling.

Love mine. I have the 20 gallon tank and yes that does suck a little but only on long trips. Did you get the crew max? If you did then you know it has more room than any truck out there. It's almost crazy how big the cab is. It is a great towing vehicle and you won't regret the purchase. Make sure you sign up for Toyota Bonus Bucks. It's free to sign up and makes you eligible for all kinds of things. They put on an owners tournament every year and it is awesome.

Lol, that's my beef with the size of trucks these days. I used to get groceries, and be able to reach over the side of the bed to set the groceries in it. Now, even with the few "compact" trucks still on the market, damn near need a step ladder to reach over into the bed.
I don't understand why they had to start making all trucks so friggin big. I rather enjoyed being able to park my old F150 with ease, as well as the older Tundras.

I've had a lot of F150's as well, and my next truck will be a Tundra. Already picked it out, just need to sell this Tahoe first.

Congrats on the new ride. It should tow the cat with no problems.

I wouldn't blame ya. We've gone through several new F150's at work. My opinion lately is Ford ain't building nothing worth buying.

Unless the brand new ones did a cost saving and welded the tailgates on you can let it down to put stuff in or take stuff out. Heck I think Ford even put a ladder in the tailgate for ya. Chevy made steps in the corner of the bumper.  lo

All kidding aside I kind of appreciate not being down like in a car. My range of vision in all directions is better. Also getting in and out is 100% better than having to "fall" in or climb to get out.

Congrats on the new toll rig.  From what I've heard they are a really nice vehicle.

Congrats on the new ride, I hope you are very happy with it!!! After 25 years of driving aTop Kick GMC with a hundred+ high pressure gas cylinders on it through traffic, narrow streets and malls I'll never own a full size truck and most midsize are out of the picture also. That's just me.

I love my Tundra, I have had it for 18 years. Never have had an issue with it. At its current pace its going to be with me for a long while...  lo Only drive it 2-3 times a month when I take the boat out.

I'm not sure anymore what I'll opt for when the time comes. It will most likely be a pick-up unless I choose to keep the White Horse and add a third vehicle. My 06 GMC 2500HD is awesome. Lots of power, pulls as good or better than anything I've ever owned, and it's paid for.

WV winter salt has started causing rust in the rocker panels  :'( and one auto body shop I got an estimate from wants $3600 to cut out and replace. Another $1000 to re-paint the whole truck and that doesn't count replacing the cheap GM bumper that's starting rust. If it eren't for the fact that it never gets more than 12mpg, I'd consider just having the body work done.

I like the Ram with the 3.0 diesel getting 27mpg and as much as I don't like Fords, that new 3.0 Powerstroke that gets 30mpg sure looks good too.  :-\

Yes mine is the CrewMax.... it's crazy how much room it has.
I loved my Ford but I couldn't justify paying what they wanted for a truck that I'm hearing so much negative stuff about lately in terms of mechanical issues.

Just topped the 600 mile mark today and I think I've about got all the bells and whistles figured out.
