Getting my gear together for the Kissimmee River BFL tomorrow
« on: January 12, 2018, 07:24:35 AM »

I'm nervous and excited all at the same time.  I'm fishing as a coangler, and it is my first tournament in quite some time, and I've never been on the body of water.  I'm getting all my stuff together and I am almost ready.  I hope I do well.

Good Luck Adam  ~c~ Just read the conditions and fish. You won't have to worry about the boat or anything but fishing. There are bass in every part of the lake, especially in Florida 8) just gotta figure out what they want :-* You'll do great, just rely on your instincts, even though you haven't used them in a while and they might be a little rusty, they are still there ~shade

How did it go?

It was cold, and fishing was tough.  I only got one in the boat, and didn't bother weighing it in.  I had a bunch of bites, but I couldn't get a hook into them.

I see that your team finished middle of the pack. At least you now know what to expect. Kissimmee, and the river, can be very fickle but if/when you find them, there can be a bunch in a given area. I would expect that they had started to spawn but the weather could have backed them off into staging areas.

I hate cold weather bassing in Florida because there's no way to predict what they'll do. You just have to hunt and peck and truly get lucky to find them.

We stayed in Toho all day.  The boater I was with caught all his fish punching mats.  I'm less than proficient in punching, and the mats were small anyway, so I flung a swim bait around all day.  I hope this weather starts to trend upward and it is a lot warmer for the open.

I didn't know you were going to stay in Toho. I know where there are some deep hydrilla beds (8-10ft) that a guy that works for the weed spraying contractor told me about. With the weather as it was, I would have tried there. I never fish Toho this time of year because unless you can find bedding fish, they can be anywhere. Post spawn, you can smash them outside the grass lines and in the boats lanes that run through the pads fields and grass to some of the houses.
