2009 18HP Gas Tank Filling
« on: March 29, 2018, 01:48:15 AM »

I have had this issue for a while now but when I fill my tank up, it always seems to back up and overflow after only a few gallons are put in. ~rant ~rant ~rant  Sometimes it clears up and other times it just stays "Full" even though I know for a fact it isn't full.  Anyone else have this issue? Suggestions?   As you know the tank is not accessible.  Thanks in advance for your help!!

Could be a venting issue. I have a similar problem on my Stratos. I found that holding the nozzle up as though I was fueling from a dock while in the water, prevents it from happening.

I've learned that my vent lines drape down from the top of the tanks before going up to the vents and fuel sometimes sloshes up into the vent lines when the tanks are full, causing it to be trapped in the vent lines. In the garage, I've used my compressed air to blow air into the tank while holding a rag around the opening. That forces the fuel out of the vent lines.

Vent lines... they are a pain sometimes. Princeton Man's all over this one.

Gonna have to see if you can get in there and straighten, lift, or clamp them in a better angle to prevent gas from getting in them. Most boat tank companies put the fill tube and the vent tube right next to each other and... well... you have the issue.

10-4....Thanks for the help.....it just gets so frustrating cause sometimes it takes 30 minutes to put in 3 gallons of gas. ~rant ~rant ~rant  Ill try blowing it out with compressed air today and try and reposition the lines.  Thanks again fellas.

One side note, newer boats after I'm not sure what year, don't have tank vents. EPA now requires fuel systems to be sealed. So check to be sure you have vents if you're not sure.
