Finally caught one on the LSCR
« on: April 02, 2018, 12:01:13 AM »

After numerous false hooksets "due to the extreme sensitivity of the Point Blank rod " I finally caught my first bass on my LSCR.
Forty degree water and the bite was as subtle as any I have ever felt. She just sucked in the jig and swam slightly towards be. When I could not feel anything I knew it had to be a bite. I set the hook hung up on my daughters phone call and easily controlled a nice 4 lb. bass on a sweet rod.
Fished with it for 5 hours and never felt tired.
Now to control my over reactions. ~b~

Well done Zip!

You know I can only catch bass when I am on the phone, texting, pulling up my pants, or scratching my head...
I've mastered the texting with right hand, cause im a righty so I can't text with my left. But I also can't hookset with my left, so I feel the bite, put the phone in pocket, switch rod to right hand, reel down, hookset.
Works pretty good for me. lol  :surrender:

Good job Zip!
Lol, had the wrong person there for a bit!
I only answer depending on who it is or whether or not I have a shirt pocket!
If it's Connie or one of the kids, I stop everything and answer. They all know the hard consonant sounds of speech are pretty much non existent for me and half of my understanding is through lip reading, so if they call instead of text, it's usually something important. At least to them!

Everyone else, I'll put 'em on speaker, drop the phone in my shirt pocket and just say "HUH?" Every few words until they get tired of it.

It's funny, some of the older folks in my family like mom, granny, my sister and dad, refuse to believe I can have hearing trouble because I'm "too young" at 33. My step dad is like, "Helloooo? Machine guns and heavy metal!"
He's a retired USAF aircraft mechanic who's spent weeks at a time subjected to jet engines and has listened to rock loud as hell most of his life too, he totally understands.

Way to go zippy  ~c~ ~c~ I took my LSCR out for the first time the other day and even though it was too cold to catch any thing I could tell I'm going ot like this rod. When I go on my yearly Crappie fishing trip I'm going to drive so I can take my Bass fishing gear and LSCR with me and use it a little more. I have a couple spots where around here I want to trey it out at also.

Nice Zippy!  ~beer~

If you don't have one get yourself a bluetooth headset. Let's me keep both hands on the rod/reel and talk at the same time.

My wife understands by now that if I all of a sudden don't answer her or start whoopin' it up it means fish on. She usually hangs up until I call her back. I usually forget to make that call.   ;) ~shade

Weather has slowed me down this year. 3 fishing days and water temps of 40 degrees on all of them. I'll try to do better next time.  ;D

I most of the time don't answer my phone when I'm out fishing unless I'm waiting on someone to arrive and need us to pick them up at the dock or tell them where the Crappier are at. Heck call my number and if I don't answer leave me a message and you will hear something like this . Sorry I Missed Your Call But Leave A Message I May be Out fishing. ;D

Nice job zip!

If you call me and I don't answer.......IT'S SIMPLY CAUSE I'M 'CALL SCREENING' YOU! 8)

Actually never had and never will carry a phone fishing.......but I also don't carry it, in the grocery store,, gas station,, customer appts., movies (if I ever went to one),...etc.
Don't answer or even look at it when driving down the road.

It confuses me, I grew up with rotary dial phones and party lines........if something was so important that I must know at that SECOND.......my guess is I wouldn't be able to solve the 'emergency' in the next five mins. anyway.

Yet, I'm flat out surrounded by folks that could probably survive with one hand......seeing the other one always seems to have a phone in it.

Trust me, I got grandkids who call me FIRST before even thier father or mother, clients who call me on holidays (got one Easter Sunday)........brothers and sister which are EXTREMELY close.
Guess what........I seem to get notified of EVERYTHING in time for me to help the person out.
If I call someone with something I feel is an emergency and the person doesn't answer........I simply call someone else.

PLEASE, this is NOT meant to criticise or degrade anyone!!!!!!
Just can't understand what in todays world the importance of constant communication....IT'S JUST ME....NOT YOU!

Joe,

I normally let the phone ring. But my kids are a special case. When she was 4 her mother and I got a divorce. The mother soon got into drugs heavy and took the kids where I could not find them. I finally found them when their grandparents took the family in to get her sorted out.
To this day we are trying to rebuild our relationship, but they have trust issues from so many lies that were told to them.
So if they call I answer.
Otherwise every one else waits.

Joe,

That was just something that I needed to get off my chest and was not aimed at you.
I have held it in for so many years it just came out.

We are good my friend.

Situation with my youngest boy was eerily similar, I know the struggle.
And I also take no offense to Anal's rant, I actually feel very much the same way myself. I'm probably the youngest person y'all'd ever know who remembers party lines. They allegedly went away in the 70's, but I know dang well they were still around in rural Mississippi until the late 80's.

It's enough to me that at least I know HOW to use old tech... but I do also have a bit of concern for those who don't. My youngest boy came across the old Rand McNally I used to keep around, all marked up with highlighter and red ink, handwritten notes in the margins about landmarks and construction, and he was amazed. 6-7 years old and his first time seeing a printed map. He thought I must've been an explorer back in my day.

Card catalogues... y'all remember them? This same kid found the old "display" in the library and almost freaked.

Due to the severity of my wife's health issues I have to have a phone with me at all times. My bluetooth headset announces who's calling so if I'm fishing and it is not my wife or my son then I don't answer.

In fact, if I'm fishing and my son is not with me and he calls I know it is something I need to answer. He knows every time I get out and being that he likes to fish almost as much as I do he understands the appeal of not being disturbed so he won't call unless it's absolutely necessary.

I check all missed calls when I get in the truck to head home. If someone needs me for something I can stop by while I'm out and save myself some time that way.
