I donít visit this lake terribly often anymore. Since being named #4 lake in the country by Bassmaster last year, the boat traffic and fishing pressure has been incredible. Me fishing from a kayak, I tend to try and stay away from that as much as possible. Not only that, but the massive amounts of hydrilla that made this lake so great to fish has all been sprayed and killed off by the energy company, as this is lake houses the nuclear plant. Nonetheless, I happened to wake up at 5am and decided what the heck, letís go fishing and put my work for the day off a little bit. I loaded everything up and made the 40 minute trek to the launch. I unloaded and was in the water just before official sunrise time of 6:28am. No bites all morning as I expected, so i paddled to some different areas. I am terrible with offshore fishing....trusting my electronics, lure choice, lure presentation...all of it. So I decided to go back to my comfort zone. Stealthy picking apart of every piece of shallow cover I see. It immediately paid off with a beautiful, fat 17.25Ē fish off the first laydown. Picked up 2 more off other laydowns, an 18.5Ē and 15.5Ē. I found LOTS of fish on beds, and some were very nice size, but no takers on any of my offerings.

If I can avoid the rain in the morning, I may try to get back out there and back to my shallow water comfort zone

I didnít get a nice pic of the sunrise this morning, but hereís a previous one from the same area of the lake. Also saw an adult bald eagle swoop in and grab a fish and fly off. Thatís the second time this year Iíve seen that already. Itís spectacular

Weightless t-rig Zoom trick worm on a straight shank hook was the ticket today. I was experimenting and I actually caught each of those fish on a different color worm....black, junebug, green pumpkin red
