Surf fishing line

Well, maybe I won't go to braid for the surf fishing equipment. I have four combos in 9 foot with a Shockwave Pro SWT750, 10 foot with a Diawa AG7000X 10 and 12 foot with an Okuma Jupiter 6000 and a 12 foot with an Okuma Acuador FS80. If I remember correctly they mostly have 30-40 lb mono from Ande. I usually take three rods with me on my Berkley Surf Cart with all the other necessities. I fish the Coast from the Delaware State Line to Assateague during my vacation in October each year. I have caught small sharks (4 foot and under), bluefish, rockfish (stripers) and a few other species. A couple of years ago I caught a fish I had no idea what the hell it was except a whole lot of ugly in one spot. Another guy at the condo looked at my picture and told me it was a monkfish.
I have never used a shock leader there but that might be something I should be using. I usually use like 30 lb on the 9 footer and 40 lb on the others. What do you suggest?
