First post, is this a good deal??
« on: May 13, 2018, 03:57:41 PM »

Buddy at work has a 2008 nitro 640.

Some images: https://imgur.com/q1JGRKY

He's telling me to take it out for a week, run the gas out and if I don't want it park it where I picked it up from. So he's confident in all of its functionality. My sad sent me these images so 9 haven't been there to inspect it, but he says there's a depth and fish finder, trolling motor and "all that" as he says.

Owner says it's been in water 5 times. I'll find out exact hours later. He's asking 6000$. What so yall think?

First let me welcome you to the Ultimate Bass family!!! Glad to see you are making yourself at home.

Even without knowing a lot of the specifics it is below NADA value for what I could find for a 640 with just the basics. Personally I'd take him up on his offer to take it out for a week on the water and I would also get a marine inspector to go over it. Might cost you a few hundred extra dollars but in the long run if there are problems it can save you money and an awkward situation with a coworker down the road. Just my opinion.

Whatever you decide please keep us posted.

As suggested the offer is indeed interesting but I highly recommend being very methodical about this boat.  The first thing to do is to get it into a reputable shop to have the motor checked out and all the routine tests conducted.  If it still is promising and has passed a complete inspection of the hull and other marine accessories then and only then would I take it for a test run.  This will give you a basis to make a decision if this is what you want.  It is a ten year old product and should be quite serviceable but just remember that can be a bit costly as well.  Boats that sit for a while are subject to some issues and you need to be aware of all of the conditions of the craft.  Good luck on your choice if you decide to move forward.  This is one of those times where a single picture is just not enough information.  The only thing that counts when buying a boat is actual facts and not hear say.

Really good looking 16 foot bass boat. Probably not bad for a first boat.
16 foot length
7 foot beam
Hull weight 1092 lbs
Picture has a trolling motor on the bow and it looks like a mount for a Humminbird FF/DF next to the console. If it has only been in the water five times since purchase I would definitely take it to a local dealer and get the engine checked out before operating it. Not sure on the hp for the outboard, lbs thrust on the trolling motor or the condition of the batteries. All those systems need to be checked.
According to NADA pricing:
Suggested List  $15,395
Low Retail  $7500
Avg. Retail $8570
Average retail price looks to be a little high for an 10 year old, 16 foot bass boat to me. You might want to do a little searching on the internet and see what people are selling them for used in retail and private sales.
If it has only been in the water five times and all the systems check out the price doesn't sound hateful to me. If the batteries need to be replaced I would adjust the price accordingly and make an offer. Good luck with your purchase.

Do what others have suggested and have at least the motor checked out. It's a nice starter boat or boat for small waters The storage is limited and it can be small for 2 to fish out of if you're casting reactionary baits but it sounds like a good deal. Let us know what you do. Welcome aboard!!!

$150 can save you thousand$. Have a reputable marine dealer inspect the entire rig, put the motor on the computer, and check the compression.

If that picture represents how the boat has been stored when it hasn't been in the water those 5 times, I'd have some concerns. Check for soft floors, rodent damage, transom and hull damage in the bilge area. While it is under a carport, water from storms can still blow in and over time that can destroy wood and soften hulls.
Lack of use usually means lack of maintenance also. A motor not properly prepared for storage can develop corrosion on the inside and running such a motor can worsen the damage.

Welcome to the UltimateBass Family we're glad you're here  ~c~

The guys are all over this one.  Get a marine tech to go over the engine.  That is the biggest cost of any boat.

Good luck and keep us posted on how things turn out.
