UPS just delivered my new to me 735 Dobyns Champion XP Glass.
I'm really excited to get this rod on the water, I have been wanting one of these for quite some time and as luck should have it, the opportunity presented itself and I bought it off Brad for one helluva price. Thanks again bud!!

I really like mine. It casts a mile and has good sensitivity for a glass rod. I've only lost two fish on it and they were just barely hooked and that's out of about 3 dozen fish.

Now if the rain lets up I want to hear how you like it.

I've thought about adding this at some point.  What's the sweet spot for casting with this rod in your opinion?

SFL BassHunter

I've used mine just once so far, but I really liked it. Like Zip said, it casts really well.
It's a very versatile rod and can accomplish most of my treble lure needs.
Cranks, Jerkbaits, Topwater
Plus Spinnerbaits, Chatterbaits, and should work for Buzzbaits

Good purchase Lou! I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Distance is its great adantage with it, without losing too much control. 1/4 to 3/4 oz baits all work well on this rod.
It is even great at pitching chatterbaits.

Thanks Rick, looking forward to fishing with it.

You are welcome Lou.  I hope you enjoy it and it works out well for you.  I would have liked it if I hadn't played with the 705CB first.  ~b~

I do not think I caught anything with it the short time that I used it.  Your first fish will be the rods first fish.  that is the way that it should be.

Congrats!

I have one myself.  I've decided to dedicate it to Cranks although a spinner and chatterbait have also been casted from that rod a time or two.  Like how you can feel the vibrations through the rod.

This is how you break in a 735 Glass South FL style!!

There's nothing like a fiesty Mayan Cichlid to give you a fun work out.

This rod is awesome. I'm going to enjoy this Champion Glass for a long time. :)

That looks like a Goggle Eye that I once caught behind the nuclear plant...

I don't even know what that thing is.  It's pretty though.

Lou says its a Mayan Cichlid whatever that is?  :-\

With that spot on the tail it looks to me like a cross between a peacock bass and a jumbo yellow perch. Probably not related to either species but that's what it looks like to me.

MC's are a very common South Florida exotic. Very scrappy and they swim on their sides when hooked causing a lot of drag due to those wide bodies. On light gear you will have quite the workout.  lo

Click here -----> Mayan Cichlid if you would like to learn a little bit more on one of our many freshwater South Florida exotic fish.

I made a post here yesterday that seems to have disappeared.  :-\

Thanks Lou. That was educational.

Anyway, I did some looking and found out that peacock bass are also cichlids. With that body shpae and spot on the tail they just looked to me like they had to be related.
