Ardent Apex Grand Review

The Ardent Apex series of reels are something to take notice to.  The Apex Line up consist of the Apex Grand, the Apex Magnum, and the Apex Elite. I am going to focus on the Grand for this review. The Grand is the only one in the series that is white. It has a very sleek design and fits well in my hands. It boast a light weight of 5.9 ozs. It can hold up to 150 yards of 12lb test string. The Grand is the only one in the series that has internally adjustable centrifugal breaks along with an externally adjustable mag break system. The Grand has an aluminum frame and has 12 + 1 ball bearings. The Grand is available in 7.3:1 gear ratio in both right and left hand models and also a 6.5:1 gear ratio in the right hand model. The base price on the Apex Grand is $219.
The first thing I noticed about the Apex Grand is how light it was and how well it balanced on my rod. The reel is very small and fits well in my hands. This reel is super smooth and cast like a dream. The first time out with this reel I was very impressed. I tried casting in the wind with a small hollowed bodied frog and had zero problems. It cast smooth and reels smooth. There is no slack in the reel and the handles are comfortable. I wish I can tell you I caught a big enough fish to test the drag but on this last trip I was lucky catch the ones I had. To say I am impressed with this reel is an understatement. On a scale 5 I will give it a 5. If you looking for good reel at midrange price this would be one to consider.
