Daiwa triforce
« on: July 06, 2018, 02:51:58 PM »

So this guy was given to me by my stepdad when he was clearing out the garage to move. Daiwa triforce-s 153b. It's been around for a while. Anyone know anything about it? Was it any good when it was "new"? I threw it on a medium action 6' gx2 just to use it but I'm finding it still wont cast anything light. I'm thinking a rebuild, but is it worth it? I'm still getting back into the freshwater game but do like baitcasters so far. I'm weighing the idea of buying a new reel for that rod and then undertaking the rebuild. If it goes well, great I'll buy another rod for it. If not,  no reel (punny) loss. Or obviously I could take it somewhere to get serviced. Opinions are appreciated.

You should be able to pull the spool out, once out wipe down the spool shaft and put a half a drop of oil on it. You should also be able to find the spool shaft bearings pretty easy, put a drop of oil on them.

After this, it should free up some. A full break down and cleaning is probably a good idea.

Unless the reel has sentimental value, the cost of professional service/rebuild would probably exceed the price it sold for new. It would be a good reel to practice your reel servicing skills with.

That's sorta what I figured. Ordering a new reel tomorrow. Will tinker with this one. Might make a good reel for a frog setup.
