LOZ, 7-11
« on: July 11, 2018, 03:40:05 PM »

It was NOT a good day to add to my UB IBass tournament totals.

Air temps, 77-97, sunny, very light wind. Water temps 87-90 degrees and clear, about 4' visibility. Water level is FULL with lots of debris. I'm guessing that Bagnell Dam is not communicating with Truman Dam, so Truman probably runs earlier than Bagnell releases, causing the lake to "bounce". This stirs up a lot of junk- being careful in main-lake eddy situations is advisable.

Fished the Gravois for four hours this morning. There is a bite, but it is extremely tough. There is little to no current generation until afternoons/evenings, and that would be by far the best time to be fishing.

The fish were actually shallower than I anticipated, less than 25' and the few keepers I caught all came from 15-19'. 7" curly-tail and u-tail Green Pumpkin worms fished with a 3/16 oz. sinker were best- I don't think I had one bite on the jig (?!). I did fish to about 40' and just couldn't make it happen.

The better fish were suspended just over the brush, and all over the lake fish are suspended out over points and drop offs, and not very close to the shad. Current would help.

The Gravois arm is maybe the toughest place to fish in the summer, but I'm working with my new Garmins, and those deep fish are good training material.

Evening tournaments are taking 16-19 pounds to win, so the current bite IS there, you just have to get your timing right. Hope this helps someone.

You should get in the Weds. night tourney. 7-11 pm  One is out of PB #2 and another out of Coffman Bend. Son! Get yourself out to the channel before 9 am and the cruiser traffic. The ladies are calling out, "Dale, Dale! Come feed me a big grub".

They do a jackpot Thursdays out of Coffman Access too. I just don't know if I want to go that route. I haven't ruled it completely out, but I think that IF I decide to do derby's again that there will be better venues for me to get my ass kicked at.

Are you sure you'd get your butt kicked?

In my current state of mind, health and infant-style re-learning curve, you bet. They'd whup me and send me home in diapers.
