Piscifun Torrent - Internals
« on: July 15, 2018, 06:16:43 PM »

I remember a thread a while back about the Piscifun Phantom. A few were wondering about the internals and specifically whether the gears were plastic.
Just tore down my Piscifun Torrent today. This is the very base model, sells for about $30. I dunk my reels all the time in my tube or yak so it was time for a full service (you can actually still see some water in the pics, and I wasnt even fishing today!)
No plastic gears here folks.

Thanks for the pics, the Phantom thread was mine. I still haven't opened the reel. But my concern wasn't plastic gears actually. The question was more relating to all the other parts in the reel. The gears they specify the material they are made of in their ads.
So truth be told the longevity of the reel is the real interest. I haven't fished mine too extensively. Not as hard as I fish my tatulas so it's been pretty good to me so far.

Thanks for popping in, I couldn't remember who started the thread.
I really only fish two rods, so mine get a ton of use. I have this one (the torrent) on a mh casting rod, and I have a little piscifun honor 2000 on a ml spin finesse rod.
Both rods probably see about 25 hours a week. Torrent is about 3 months old or so, and the honor is almost 3 years. Both have seen some pretty big carp too.
Like anything else, take care of your gear and it'll take care of you.

Sounds like the gear works pretty good then. You’re right.

Brass gears for the main gears look normal. I have yet to open a reel that have plastic main gears. If I did, the service would be stopped then and there. Most of the internals of that reel dont look out of the norm for a CDR, but I dont see the rest of the parts that would allow me to make a statement. Keeep fishing it and see what the time will tell.
