New to me 1988 363v ..Electrical issues.
« on: September 14, 2018, 09:52:35 PM »

I think I posted on someone post so I re entered this here,,
Hi All,
New here, and I have the typical issues with bad Livewell pumps...Im all cut up but got the one out and have a replacement.  I have the Brown positive and black neg wires, I give them direct current and of course the pump works, When I spliced the red to the brown positives that go to the switches,Toggles,  nothing and I have power to the switches????  I didn't at first, lots of stiff wires, but I twisted and turned the connectors and I got power, But I had a wire direct from the battery to the switches and still no power back to the pumps?  I have the timer and it looks shot, could that be a reason, maybe bypass it? But shouldn't the pump get power if I have direct to the switch? If anyone has a wiring diagram that would be great..

Replacing carpets, dash Im going to strip and try to Stain!!  Im using clear reinforced hose for the livewells, flexible and safer for fish..
Need to add glove box, but it starts and has power to the fuel gauge, bilge work on floats, horn works, 12v outlet works, not sure about lights yet.trolling motor works so I can fish!!
Hoping to get this figured out this weekend, if anyone has Ideas please send them....

If the timer is shot it may be the issue,,,  you can wire it from the switch directly to the pump and bypass it like you were saying and should fix the trouble.

Older and neglected boats often ill have wiring and pluming issues that will pop up at the worst times  v~

I agree with Ron, the timer is most likely problem.

You can bypass the timer or replace it. If you think you might get into some tournament fishing, replacing it will be your best option. It's doubtful you'll be able to find the original timer but their are timers available that you can wire in. Their are also switches that include a timer although they don't always fit in the existing switch panels.

Frankly I would replace the timer and all the wiring, I know it's a PITA but in the long run will be the most trouble free way to go. You're talking a 30 year old boat, I think you wind up rewiring the whole deal, if you can do it yourself I would.

My Ranger is a 1991 365V so we are about the same vintage.  The under dash wiring is a bit of a nightmare. Essentially I leave it alone and don't worry about it until something breaks and then I only address the broke stuff.  Just too much of a birds nest of wires.  Fact is no matter when you have to make a repair under there it is a pain in the neck.

OK,  I installed New Livewell pumps,!!!   Lots of blood and dizziness,Pvc and wires but they work and hopefully won't leak when I test them tomorrow. I wired one to the original brown/white positive wire and the switch on the dash works it.  The other one is not getting power, So I have new switches and will install them tomorrow...I can just have both work at one time, but seems a waste...

i have them on my 1991 365.  The cleats are just fine but the cord reel deal is just worthless and have never attempted to fix then.
