Memories
« on: September 15, 2018, 04:23:08 PM »

Of all the new things, like techniques and terminology that have come around in the sport of bass fishing in my extended absence, there are plenty that I don't like. However there are a very few interesting statements that kinda turn me on. For instance-

"Fish the Moment." Whoo boy, DEEEP. And so true.

"Five by Three." GENIUS.

And then there's one I hear a lot that says "You can't fish Memories." Here's the one that I struggle with, and I suspect will continue to have issues with. Too much water has passed beneath way too may bridges since I quit this deal. Chuckin' those memories, and starting from scratch EACH AND EVER DAY is the new challenge. Actually, it's ALWAYS been the challenge- I'm just more aware of it nowadays, especially as I prepare for my first competition in over fifteen years.

Any more of these bass fishing sayings/statements that ya'll like?

"Find the forage, find the bass."

"No forage, no bass"

"Keep your bait wet"

These three thoughts pretty well explain my approach to fishing. Doggone it, D.W., I could have written these three sentences when I joined UB. I would have saved 6 years of writing fishing posts. lol

As for as "You can't fish memories", any angler that starts fresh every day and doesn't use his EXPERIENCE is an IDIOT!

You have to use your memories every time you go fishing. You have to think back to other fishing trips and think about what worked and what didn't under any given circumstance and then apply what you remember to what's going on now. I think you also have to relate the "Find the forage, find the bass." to finding the structure that they are relating too which is closest to where the forage is at. Foe example just because you see a good ball of forage out in the middle of the lake without anything in the area don't mean to spend a your whole trip to get a bass out of that area. ;D

If it hadn't been for memories I wouldn't have put any of those fish in the boat I took pics of yesterday. I hit another area first which has always been my goto first thing, memories also told me if I don't have a bite in 10 minutes then leave. Without memories you have no experience as Wizard said, just be ready to change what you're doing if the memories aren't working out!
