It's a deal
« on: February 06, 2019, 09:29:05 AM »

I went into my local sporting store yesterday to look at fishing stuff and guns :)

I have been wanting to get a cheaper and small carry weapon as I haven't had one in sometime.  I went in looking to see if they had the Glock 43x in (which they did <3 ) but at a $450 price tag I wasn't ready to drop that.

I was perusing the used guns and BAM!  They had a Taurus PT 709 Slim for $198 used.  I had one of these about 10 years ago and it was a solid weapon.  But I got rite of it for another Glock at that point lo

They didn't have anything lower and honestly anything $200 or lower is a deal if you ask me.  I go to put it in layaway as I have to change my address on my ID and the guy says that's used so 10% off  ~c~

So I ended up getting it after tax for $190.15!

Can't wait to start carrying again esp with the area I work in being downtown St. Louis.

Congratulations! Now you have to get used to it. I suggest you go to Top Gun Shooting Sports in Arnold, Mo. If you don't shoot often, I would be happy to offer you knowledge I've gained while carrying a weapon.

I have carried for years just haven't since my divorce so the last 2 years.  I use to be a member of Top Gun and Arnold Gun Club.  I am defiantly going to hit the range and work on drawing from concealment.

Actually about 5 years ago I was a few steps away from starting my own business teaching ccw classes and then things got rocky with the ex wife.

Taurus PT 709 Slim for $198 used.

Really enjoyed my 709, smooth weapon that fit my hand well,,,, looking for another if I can find one under $200 it will take the sting having it lifted from the shop that serviced my truck last  ~rant ~rant

I liked mine too that I had before.  Plus Taurus lifetime warranty is a nice perk

Their warranty is great, but I haven't heard of many cases where it was needed! A lot of people like to talk trash about Taurus/Rossi... but not many of the people who actually have ownership experience with them.

I've owned and tinkered on several guns from them, revolvers, semi autos, their 1911 and Beretta copies, and their rifles.

I wouldn't hesitate to own another. My first was a sweet Rossi polished stainless 357 mag snubnose revolver. I still regret selling it and that was a little over 10 years ago.

I would agree with that statement!

I will say the first one I bought I went straight to the range and the magazine kept coming out after being fired once.  Had to send it back to the manufacture same day I bought it  ~rain lo

But Taurus replaced the part that was apparently not right in the weapon and got it back to me rather quickly.

It sucked though buying a new weapon and having to send it in for service the same day  ~beer~

I bought a Taurus 709 Slim right after they came out. It's been a great gun. Out of all the ones I have the Wife liked it so much she bought one for herself.

That's true, but it can happen to any gun. I've known dealers to pull guns out to put on display and have to send them back for crazy stuff. In other words, sent back for warranty work before even being purchased!
Missing sights, loose safeties, mags not staying in. I've known a dealer to send a S&W 686 back because the chamber holes weren't aligned properly on the cylinder! One chamber was actually drilled through the edge of the star on the rear of the cylinder, and the opposite one was left with a paper thin layer of metal between it and the outside wall of the cylinder.

I get things happen.  Anytime something is manufactured your going to have something get through the cracks from time to time.  That's crazy tho on the 686
