SD cards ?
« on: April 25, 2020, 04:09:48 AM »

Is it typical to need to buy an SD card to use the navigation on a new Lowrance unit? My last one came ready to roll and these last two don't have any mapping.

It is if you want to get the most out of the mapping. The generic mapping that comes on most units is "lacking", to say the least.
Lowrance uses Navionics, and H-Bird uses Lakemaster.

The Lowrance Elites I used to own had the Navionics base maps. No depth contours if I remember correctly but they did show channel markers. Not useful for fishing and just barely good for navigation. I thought the basemaps had improved some over the years.
