All Around Best Line
« on: April 06, 2019, 08:03:11 PM »

So I've got a tournament coming up in a couple weeks and I'm fishing as a co-angler. Being a co-angler means less rods so I feel like my set ups need to be a versatile as possible instead of being technique specific. Does anyone have any suggestions for best line to use for almost everything on baitcasters? I will have at least two baitcasters with me, one being a 6:1 and the other an 8:1. Any help is appreciated

Braid or copy are my choices for "all around". You can always tie a leader to braid.

I agree with lMG,  Braid with an assortment of leaders for what you plan on facing works well, otherwise a good co-polymer line works also.  Depending on where you are fishing, 12 to 20 lb test would be my line weight suggestion.

When I fish out of the back I will always have one set up with 20 Flouro and one with 15 flouro.  I like Invizex because it handles so well and enhances the feel of a bite.  No knots or leaders. If I know I'm fishing a frog or swim jig all day, braid to lure for sure but not if I'm having to guess on techniques. That's just me.

Where is the tournament....Some of the people who live in Florida live and die by the braid...I hardly ever use it anymore. I get good results with my flouro and hate retying leaders.

I pretty much use flouro for everything but topwater and stick baits. Those I usually use mono ,sometimes a co poly.

Braid, I made the switch and am not looking back. I'm getting away from leaders also, I'm finding I don't need them so why have an extra knot. I will use mono for topwater though. I'm going to try braid for deep cranks this year.

For me it is braid because it works where mono and flouro do not--in heavy cover--and I can color it to match the conditions. Yeah...I have to carry a few markers with me but as long as I color before the line gets wet I don't have to mess with it during a day.

If I need mono or flouro I can tie on a leader. If I'm fishing some goofy top water bait with trebles I'll use a mono leader (never happens, but if it did I'm covered). If I'm around wood (happens a lot) I will tie on a flouro leader to avoid cutting into the wood and breaking off.

I made the switch years ago to strait braid except for cranks and those get strait mono.

i have made the switch to braid on crank baits and jerk baits after a lot of side by side fishing.  you will be amazed at how many more bass you catch on a crankbait because you feel the wobble change every so slightly on the lure.  jerk, because on has it.  i have not experienced losing hooked bass either.

I tend to use mono for crankbait presentations.  I have used braid but it becomes a problem when fishing in heavy wood style cover especially stumps.  The mono allows me to break off when required vs braid that is hard to break.  Now if I was fishing in water without this kind of cover braid would be my choice.  Just so many times the target location for cranks are in places where you can't get to to recover the bait or on the river the current makes it almost impossible to get in position for a recovery.  If I am snagged up on braid the only think I can usually do is get as close as I can and bring out the pit bulls and cut the line if using braid.

I donít throw anything with treble hooks, so I say braid all the way. With a leader on the rare occurrence I encounter clear water
