Ultra light & bigger 2" & 3"  spinning spools. Using floating 2" to 4"  Rebel & Rapala  floating lures.
I have a tough time in any wind from shore. 60 ' is pretty good for me in a breeze. I do about the same distance with a #9 weight forward fly rod.  Am I that bad ?

Thank you

might be reading this incorrectly, but I never could get distance with spin-casting reels.  even the 'good' ones.

Floating Rapalas are very light. On top of that they tumble when cast with a spinning rod, making it slow down against the wind.

60' is a long distance for a floating Rapala.

Don't worry so much about distance and more about precision. Location will always get more bites than distance.

I am 81.  So I thought I was losing it !! I have to cast for the really small kids. Bait up. Etc.

I have used those 2 brands of lures forever. 2 years ago I died 4 times & have recovered with  the electronic heart controller... Bionic fisherman.   lo
So my casts are much shorter now

Great bunch of fishing people here.  Thank you all for helping me get back to fishing.

I have another post about current fish finders for the kids fishing boat.

May 1 I go to a tiny cottage at a camp on the St Lawrence River Near Clayton, N Y.  Spend the summer taking a different adult & their kids fishing in the bay in front of the docks.

Life is Good.    :)

Enjoy your summer! Sounds like a dream come true. I take as many different people as I can on Erie every summer and it is so much better than me catching fish.

The best are parent & child taking turns bringing in 8 to 20 pound carp as a team effort. I take some happy faced pictures.  Of the team efforts on their cameras.

  • Good things come to those who bait !!!

I understand  the feeling that get when taking others fishing. I worked as a Master  Fishing Instructor for Masswildlife's Angler Education Program for a lot of years. Helping adults and their kids learn the joys of fishing was such a great experience. When I had boats I would take  neighbors or relatives out as much as possible. Even  as a bank bound angler I would still invite people to come along for the fun.

Sharing the sport is just as rewarding to me as catching a big fish or a huge number. Maybe even more rewarding.

BA, that's a lovely part of the state, when the kids were little we camped at Wellesley Island, I caught my largest lmb, over 7 lbs. My youngest son, about 7, caught his first pike, about 36 inches. Good deal helping others. ~c~ ~c~ ~c~

I have just restarted building about 40 model boats that I give out at the state camp on Wellesley.

Did for many years until a big heart attack 2 years ago.  Up to speed now.  I cut & paint the boat parts. Kids get waterproof markers & mark them up.   ;D
