Nothing wrong with the St.Croix.. Rods have changed a bit in the last 30 years.
The changes ain't hype..
St Croix has or did have a trade up program give them a call .
Thanks for the info regarding the upgrade program, much appreciated, but I'm all set with upgrading a $200 rod that was supposed to be an upgrade from a simple $50 30yr old Ugly Stick.

My Fault.

I'll be out looking for lighter meat sticks with some backbone, and a fairly light high quality reel to go with it, cuz other than weight, this CI4+ isn't impressing me either.

I just want a lighter rig than the ancient Penn4500ss/US combination I have(I used a Penn 550ss before that ) but WITHOUT giving up backbone and dependability.
This rig is far too light for what I need, it's like an open water(points/ridges etc)or crappie rod, which just won't work very well for me in heavy cover consistently IMO.
My Fault, I didn't handle this rig in person, and I don't fish off a boat with fancy electronics showing me underwater humps/fish, I generally target heavy exposed cover, mostly out of a canoe.

Thanks Again

I'm going to call Gary D about this, see what he suggests, but I won't be able to handle it in person, cuz no dealers around here.
