Anyone use newer Ardent Reels
« on: July 30, 2019, 08:03:16 PM »

The title pretty much explains it all. Looking to see if anyone has experience with the newer Ardent reels and what your thoughts are on them. LMG please stay out of this discussion we know your thoughts on this brand.

I have the C-force, the Apex Elite, the Apex Flipping, the Apex Grand, and the Bolt (multiples of each). I love them. The Grand, which is their most expensive baitcaster Has a duel breaking system which I think is kind of a waste. I took the centrifugal brakes out and it works great. I'm not a fan of centrifugal brakes and personally don't like having the side plate off to adjust them. The magnetic brake work fine. Anyway all the reels perform great. The staff at Ardent are awesome and will take care of any problems you have. All their Apex reels come with a 3 year warranty. The Apex flipping reel is awesome and a must have if you like to pitch and flip. They are coming out with a new Apex reel that will have an 8.0:1 ratio retrieve. The Bolt spinning reels use to come with a hinge handle which I didn't care for but the new ones have a carbon fiber handle and those I like. The only problem I ever had with any of the reels is one of my Elites had a bad pinion gear. I sent it back and they repaired it right away and I had it back in a week. I did a review on the flipping reel and I will post it below.

Very interesting Jared.  Does it come in left hand retrieve?
P.S.  I expected you to be a Cajun!  :)

Laurie won an APEX at the last UBCS, she's only got a couple trips out with it but...

Absolutely loves it. The small size fits her hand perfectly.

Years ago when Ardent first started their reels were extremely over engineered. Just taking the side plate off could cause failures and springs to fall out. But this new APEX, the only one I have experience with, is a much better product. So much so, because of the size and ease of use I'm thinking about moving Laurie's reels to all Ardent. I'm a die hard Shimano fan and probably won't ever change... But I've made a few casts with the APEX and have been impressed, was even more impressed when I pulled it apart and seen they simplified it.

Durability? Well that's yet to be determined. It's got some things I don't like and some things I do like. As I said I'm a Shimano fan and everything has to live up to a curado and it's basic proven design...

Don the Grand, the Elite, and the C-force all have a left hand retrieve option but as of now the flipping does not.

Overall I liked the reels but had to retire them after 2 years. Just didn't hold up.

Thank you for the updates. Jared glad to hear from someone who has the entire line up. With my arthritis acting up more i need lighter reels to handle without the giant cost increase. seems ardent is only one offering light weight in decent price.

Jared, Tks for sharing the video with us.  Does that flipping & pitching reel come with an Over Size handle?

DonM, I was mistaken, the flipping reel does come in a left hand retrieve.

Donald, it comes with a carbon fiber handle but it is not an over size handle.

Dang it Jared, why'd you have to tell me that.  I don't think there is room for one more rig in my garage, much less in the boat.  :)
